The EMDM project “PRI-ARTEC”, led by the University of Pau, associates three universities of the European community (universities of Pau, Turin and of the Basque Country), the University of Trondheim (Norway) and the University of Chile. Focusing on ecological arts, it wishes to rely on the expertise of researchers in a wide cross-section of disciplines, also on partnerships of civil organizations and local initiatives involved in the creation, analysis and dissemination of ecological arts. Over the past two decades, ecological themes and environmental issues have become increasingly important in all areas of artistic creation (literature, visual arts, applied arts and design...). Faced with the loss of biodiversity, the degradation of the ecosystems, climate change, and the depletion of material and energy resources, the capacity of the arts to express, amplify, symbolize, and denounce is challenged, as is their possibility of transforming mentalities and modifying the relationship between man and his vital environment. The usefulness of arts and culture in relation to ecology, as well as the amplitude of the poetic and aesthetic rupture caused by the ecological arts are still underestimated. However, new specialties have emerged that study these topics from various perspectives: ecocriticism, ecopoetics, environmental aesthetics, ecosophy, eco-anthropology, eco-pedagogy, human ecology... A wide range of approaches and methods attempt to assess the political and social role of the ecological arts. There are still very few academic trainings that consider these subjects from a multidisciplinary and integrative perspective. The mundus master's degree “PRI-ARTEC” would like to consider the full spectrum of this topic and compensate for the lack of university courses in this particular domain, adopting an international approach induced by the diversity of geographical situations and environmental problems, of cultural and artistic particularities and traditions.
