We propose an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme in “Sound and Music Computing plus” to be launched as a result of the Design Measures described in this proposal. The program has a strong focus on interdisciplinary sonic interaction design, thereby ensuring that young people will have the necessary skills needed to envision and develop innovative, ethical, beneficial and sustainable solutions across a variety of domains and sectors that incorporate sonic elements. This includes areas such as leveraging artificial intelligence to design a new generation of immersive audio technologies and techniques for sonification, assistive technologies, music information retrieval, digital cultural heritage, interfaces for musical expression, and new music production methods. The design and engineering focus within this joint Masters program aims to provide coss-disciplinary teaching that will prepare students to develop innovative solutions for challenges that cannot be addressed through individual disciplines alone. The degree provides students with theoretical knowledge and the practical skills and tools to investigate key concepts of interactive applications and sound and music computing systems grounded in design thinking and computation. The degree includes topics and methods that span creative design, basic acoustics, computer science, physics, mathematics, signal processing, human-computer interaction, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and finds practical application in fields such as architecture (digital acoustics simulations & smart homes), health and wellbeing (hearing aids and sound control, music therapy for stroke & Parkinsons patients, etc.), performance (augmented musical instruments / audio effects), sound rendering and spatialization (VR/AR, entertainment, noise reduction), and digital media and the arts (algorithmic music composition, AI-assisted music production, etc.).
