Project summary

This project aims to improve education and training for technicians and entrepreneurs in South Africa, Romania, and The Netherlands. The main objective is to enhance the capacity of public and private VETs in Romania and South Africa by introducing a digital learning platform to enable the transfer to work-based education. This means providing education that starts in the working environment with innovative learning techniques, including gamification, reward systems, digital portfolios, and a blended didactic approach. The learning program will support existing curricula both in formal education and non-formal education and training. The project will deepen partnerships between training organisations, the private sector, education, and civil society in the mentioned countries while bridging the gap between qualification and employment. During the action, participants in South Africa will be recruited from townships. In Romania, the system will be embedded in the regular education system. Work-based education is crucial, which is why an industry partner is part of the consortium. The project aligns with the development strategies of VET providers and supports country-level strategies. The platform and designed learning programs aim to connect partners (education and industry) for sustainable cooperation. Moreover, new VET providers and industry interested in this innovative learning technique can join and the training pathways can also be transferred to Dutch VET providers. The project will focus on the training of electricians, plumbers, and carpenters. Learners in the program who are recognised for their potential to start a company will receive an additional Venture Creation skills program to empower them as entrepreneurs. Because of the innovative didactics, teachers and private trainers from partner institutes will be trained in this project to adapt this approach and training format to their specific contexts and curricula.
