Project summary

The project "Data literacy in upper primary education" (DALI4US) aims to equip primary school teachers with the necessary confidence, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to teach data literacy effectively. In a first step, a holistic framework for data literacy in primary education is proposed based on a thorough analysis of the educational data literacy landscape and a needs analysis among key stakeholders. To make the framework actionable, we provide teachers, school leaders and policymakers with a full-fledge package to teach data literacy in a confident, sound and scalable way. In this respect, the project‘s outcomes are four-fold: - digital ecosystem OrangeEDU(adaptation of the existing data literacy software Orange Data Mining), - cross-subject teaching and learning materials, - professional teacher and school leader training program on data literacy, - evidence-based policy recommendations on data literacy education in primary schools and on incorporating technological, pedagogical and policy demands into the collaboration with edTech developers. To assure the quality and practical use of these outcomes, DALI4US adapts a design-based collaborative approach involving a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, teachers and  edTech providers. The outcomes of DALI4US are both scalable and transferable as the full-fledge “data literacy teaching package” will be available in 4 languages, including the OrangeEDU Digital Ecosystem running plateform-independently.
