Project summary

The GREEN TALES project improves accessibility to green awareness education through the arts and the use of digital tools, for primary school-aged children who come from underprivileged and migrant backgrounds in Europe. The project involves 100 children from Spain, Germany, Iceland, and Turkey interacting with 12 professional artists during 15 artistic workshops in each school, accompanied by 8 schoolteachers. During this process, 8 short stories inspired by the 4 elements of nature will be created, illustrated, put into music and in the digital format of animated movies. During the process, a capacity building residency of artists and experts on green awareness will take place, 4 teachers’ trainings on green awareness and digital skills will be provided in the countries involved, and a toolkit for primary school teachers and guidelines for artists will be created for replicability. In Ceuta, Berlin, Akureyri and Adana, children and artists will present the results of their workshops in the schools, with the participation of teachers and parents. Recommendations on how to support a holistic approach to teaching green awareness promotion through artistic practices and how to foster social inclusion and well-being in primary education systems through creative arts practices, will be drafted by experts from the two partner Universities. The production of digital short stories centred on respect for nature created by children and supported by artists is an innovative approach to boosting European diversity and talent. With this project, IYMF aims at bringing the highest quality artistic education to children while enlarging its Network with additional partners bringing new skills, competences, and networks. The results of this innovative green approach will be disseminated within the IYMF’s MUS-E Network and among the spheres of environmental, educational, and cultural stakeholders, in collaboration with 3 partners specialised in digital, storytelling and green.
