Project summary

The International Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (IMQP, 120 ECTS) embodies an extensive and successful scientific and educational collaboration among five Higher Education Institutions engaged in cutting-edge research in prehistory and Quaternary geology: Università degli Studi di Ferrara, Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Universitat Rovira I Virgili, Instituto Politecnico de Tomar, and University of the Philippines Diliman. The primary goal is to educate emerging scientists and experts, equipping them with competitive skills and knowledge through foundational courses in prehistory, paleoanthropology, geology, paleontology, heritage preservation, as well as practical/methodological training in modern laboratories and significant prehistoric excavation sites. Students benefit from an esteemed scientific environment that combines theoretical and practical activities, incorporating field experience. Participants will engage in studies at a minimum of two partner institutions, and joint activities will feature lecturers from all partner institutions. Graduates will receive a joint diploma (signed by all EU EES), and those completing their mobility in the Philippines will also be conferred the title of UPD. The program involves over 70 lecturers/researchers/administrators from 14 countries, directly contributing to the master's course and supporting 79 scholarships through the EACEA. Additionally, 83 positions will be available for non-scholarship students, with partial funding from the IMQP consortium. The master's interdisciplinary and international nature prepares professionals with a robust foundation in scientific research methods and a profound understanding of Homo's ancient history from a cultural and naturalistic-prehistoric standpoint. Students gain valuable skills in the interaction between humans and the environment during the Quaternary, fostering cross-training that enhances their future career prospects.
