Project summary

The general objective of the GastroTour project is to develop and implement innovative digital educational solutions and tools to promote and stimulate the transformation of regional wine/cuisine tourism industries, contributing to sustainable economic and social development, by creating and sustaining platforms for training, up-skilling, business innovation and marketing. This project responds to a growing and expressed need to deal with the human resource constraints and limited upskilling opportunities in the related sector in Georgia and South Africa, which have comparable market dynamics. The identification of pre-existing Europe – Georgia – South Africa academic collaboration is considered a starting point for wider industry collaboration and for offering inter-regional dynamic solutions to skilling for local and sustainable development. The project is driven by a network of university- industry educational partnerships, who articulate with wine cooperatives, wine/cuisine tourism enterprises and regional Tourist Boards. GastroTour comprises: - an education component that will develop new international learning content in the wine tourism/gastronomy /business management sector into Learning Packages, avaliable as micro-credentials for university students and professionals in the wine/cuisine tourism sector. - an interactive platform component that provides diverse wineries and vineyards the opportunity to assess their business models through different tools, and receive consultancy from university wine tourism students (and their supervisors) in the form of projects and internships.
