The 2-year Master Programme (120 ECTS) “Imaging and Light in Extended Reality (IMLEX)” will provide a multidisciplinary and innovative programme combining Extended Reality (XR), Computational Imaging and Vision, Photonics and Lighting. The objective is to educate students in advanced technologies, methodologies and practical applications, aiming to achieve two key goals: enhancing graduates' career prospects and fulfilling the industry and societal needs. Students will develop professional and social skills useful in both European and Japanese cultural context. Students have one uniform mobility track during studies: Semester 1 in Finland (University of Eastern Finland), Semester 2 in France (University Jean Monnet), Summer School in Belgium (KU Leuven) and Semester 3 in Japan (Toyoyhashi University of Technology). Semester 4 is dedicated for Master's thesis in academia or industry. The topics covered by this programme are in line with innovation strategies as put forward by EU’s Industry 4.0 and Japan’s Society 5.0. Photonics is recognized as a key enabling technology which is represented by the European Technology Platform Photonics 21. The proposed programme addresses the transformative nature of XR and its impact on human-environment interactions, emphasizing the role of Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality (AR, MR, VR) in various applications. IMLEX leverages both European and Japanese research expertise, with strong industrial engagement from both regions, fostering a common and integrated approach by the consortium.
