Project summary

Aim of the MATHS-DISC Master degree programme is to offer a high profile training in mathematical, computational and complimentary skills that are nowadays recognized as "indispensable key" enabling tools to handle complex problems at industrial, economic and societal levels, driving innovation of processes and paradigms at the heart of the digital and green transition for a sustainable, resilient, human centred industry and society. MATHS-DISC provides students with a multidisciplinary expertise in mathematical/numerical modelling and optimization, computer programming and simulation, data science and artificial intelligence. It offers a unique educational experience that combines theoretical and practical training, research-based learning and international mobility. The programme is designed to attract excellent students from all over the world, ensuring geographic and gender balance, through a diverse, vibrant and stimulating international academic environment with courses, internships and research opportunities offered by leading universities, research centers and companies across Europe. Guest lectures and workshops will provide exposure to industry. The acquired knowledge and skills are then developed in master thesis projects on a variety of topics related to the digital and green transition. They range from energy markets to computational finance and circular economy; agri-food, logistics and transport; health and biomedicine; digital twin design and optimization; high performance computing, quantum computing, computational fluid dynamics, machine learning and soft computing. Complementary transverse skills on sustainable development, start-up entrepreneurship are obtained through dedicated courses. Graduates of the program are wellequipped to pursue successful careers in academia and industry, with excellent employability perspectives, and they will have a positive impact in the development of a sustainable economy in the EU and in the entire world.
