EU-MasterAPN is an Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) initiative aimed at designing a European joint master’s (MA) program in advanced practice nursing. Although European countries are beginning to offer country-level advanced practice nursing MA programs, there are no European-level programs available nor is collaboration common anywhere in the globe. As the mobility of nurses is needed and exists among many countries, the joint MA program will offer opportunities to increase mutual understanding and communication thus enabling role standardization between countries. Furthermore, we can offer education to nurses from countries that are not as far along in advanced practice nursing role development and education. Four eligible EU Higher Education Institutions (HEI) with complementary expertise from Finland, Ireland, Iceland, and Belgium are brought together for this 15-month EMDM project aiming to design a joint MA. We may involve additional countries and HEIs in the consortium beyond this EMDM project. Furthermore, we will find associated partners among advanced practice nursing experts and other organizational partners to secure the connection between education and practical implementation of the designed joint MA program. During the EMDM project, we will utilize diverse expertise to foster creative and innovative thinking in the development of an integrated Master of Science in Advanced Practice Nursing curricula, teaching practices, and mechanisms of quality assurance, accreditation, and recognition of degrees. Finally, we will prepare all documents necessary for a full Erasmus Mundus Joint Master proposal.
