Project summary

Delivering the European Green Deal requires transformation of key aspects of our society, economy and environment. From food production, to consumption of resources, and transport and infrastructure. These changes must be augmented by restoring natural habitats and processes to enhance nature’s resilience and prepare for the impacts of climate change. Our consortium provides regional foci of pan European challenges in terrestrial, oceanic, boreal, temperate, inland waters, and arid environments. These challenges include habitat destruction and fragmentation, biodiversity loss, invasive species, climate change and pollution. In response to these challenges, and EU policies related to nature restoration, climate change, biodiversity loss, and the green and blue economies our consortium wishes to develop a joint master’s degree. This design measures project facilitate the partners to develop an International Master in Ecological Restoration using Nature based Solutions (IMERNATS) Our consortium is already collaborating in an EU University (EU GREEN) and we will extend this to develop an innovative, joint master programme that diversifies the: • Types of Erasmus Mundus Master’s Degrees, • Participation at a country, regional, and institutional level, The EMMD we develop will use an immersive, needs-led innovation approach to deliver expertise in identifying, developing, and testing nature-based solutions for habitat restoration. It will provide graduates with the expertise to lead implementation of ecological restoration initiatives using nature-based solutions. The proposed master will enhance country level participation by including countries with a relatively low participation rate (Sweden, Ireland, Romania). Regionally, where the relevant partner is the only university in the region and no existing joint master exists, and institutionally by incorporating partners with experience of joint masters and universities that have no experience of joint master degrees.
