PolySmart focuses on the current importance and relevance of Smart Polymers, the multidisciplinary nature of the field, and the benefits of training interdisciplinary professionals in this emerging area with future applications in both research and various industrial sectors. Polymeric materials stand as a dynamic area of research, driving transformative shifts in society's habits as they gradually supplant traditional materials by being more sustainable and circular. The objective of this emerging sector is automating industry processes, enhancing economic prosperity, and promoting social well-being. PolySmart encompasses a broad spectrum of applications in biotechnology, environmental science, agri-food industries, and health processes, among others. This innovative and interdisciplinary Master’s program aims to develop a high-quality curriculum based on: i) basic scientific research on chemistry, material science, biotechnology, and analytical tools; ii) recent findings on smart polymers applications; iii) identification of new industrial gaps where smart polymers can contribute to significant advantages. Moreover, the multidisciplinary nature of PolySmart integrates expertise from organic chemistry, biotechnology, macromolecular chemistry, biomaterials, chemometrics, and computational studies, driving innovation across sectors and covering this educational gap. PolySmart will lead to a joint degree of 120 ECTS, designed to foster significant industrial innovation through a cross-disciplinary training and mobility program across 4 HEI's (Spain, Poland, Italy, and Portugal). It aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills, thanks to i) industry-academia collaborations; ii) transnational mobility program; iii) internships, including hands-on activities and participation in living labs. Transversal skills such as sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship will also be addressed, as well as socioeconomic impact.
