Global Master of Pedagogy of Empowerment of the Others (GLOPE) is a project aims at developing an integrated curriculum for an inclusive and empowering Erasmus Munds joint master’s degree programme. Even though diversity of people and ideas has been one of the defining characteristics of societies in the world, the impacts of asymmetrical power relations embedded in the diverse society have got little attention. For example, only perspectives from the dominant and powerful groups shape the educational sector in many contexts. In effect, other equally relevant perspectives have been marginalised. This has negatively influenced a group of people who are Othered. The Others may be understood in this project as people – irrespective of their geographical location – who are subjugated, objectified, subjectified, oppressed, marginalised, distorted, misrepresented, silenced, ignored, and dehumanized due to their ethnicity or race, physical or intellectual disability, skin colour, language, class, cultural differences, gender, immigration status, or other identity markers or intersection of some of these. GLOPE argues that these Othered people must be empowered through education to overcome injustices they face in the form of among others epistemic violence. To this end, GLOPE will develop a novel and disruptive curriculum. To achieve this main objective, GLOPE brings together a consortium of four European higher education institutions: INN University (Norway), Université Rennes (France), Democritus University of Thrace (Greece), and University of Limerick (Ireland). In addition to developing a high quality and new curriculum, the project will enable the participant institutions to strengthen a long-term cooperation on similar and other projects.
