This Design Measures project pursues the articulation of a 120 ECTS EMJM that examines the contribution made by the English-speaking cultural world to the construction of a shared European ethos. The master analyses the synergies that English-language cultural products have forged with other European cultural discourses in order to shape affirmative forms of European identity. The consortium comprises members of the English departments from Universitat Jaume I, as coordinator, Sapienza Università di Roma and Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary. The three institutions act as full members of the consortium granting the joint degree. Members from the English departments at Tallinn University and Tbilisi State University act as associated partners involved in the mobility and academic programmes with a view to their future incorporation. The proposal includes the organisation of formative workshops to design the master programme, meetings with prospective partners from target universities and cultural industries to start collaborations and the design of a dissemination plan. The MA programme benefits from an education-in-the-Arts approach promoting the competences for democratic culture and intercultural communication. It follows an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses linguistics, literary studies, media studies, gender studies, ecocriticism and cultural studies, as well as the introduction of digital humanities and AI, from synchronic and diachronic perspectives. The master explores new directions in the cross-pollination between English-language and European cultural discourses by stressing the agentive power of creativity, empathy and resilience. It aims to train future professionals as cultural agents, teachers, translators and experts in textual mediation, who will contribute to the common European construction, strengthening European connections and co-operation through their expertise in the analysis of cultures and languages.
