IM4SOILHEALTH - International Master in Evaluation and Monitoring of Soil Health

1011804832024Erasmus Mundus Design Measuresongoing
Countries: ES · Grant: €60,000

Project summary

Soil Heath (SH) has been comprised by human activities, particularly intensive farming and industrial processes destroying habitats in both rural and urban settings. Consequently, soil functions are being compromised in both rural and urban areas, and in consequence, their ecosystem services, socio-economic activities, landscape quality, biodiversity conservation, resulting in significant economic, environmental, and societal consequences. This innovative and interdisciplinary Erasmus Mundus master (IM4SOILHEALTH) aims to fill in all the knowledge and skills that students are missing in the new emerging field of Soil Health, encompassing soil sciences, soil biodiversity, soil management and soil monitoring. IM4SOILHEATH aims to provide high-quality innovative, holistic, high-level integrated transnational studies focused on the field of Soil Health monitoring and evaluation built directly on (i) innovation approaches for sustainable soil management and restoration, (ii) digital tools and infrastructure for soil health understanding, (iii) ecosystems services and (iv) harmonization and standardization of soil health indicators. IM4SOILHEALTH is designed to trigger substantial innovation based on a cross-discipline training & mobility programme within the 3HEI´s (Spain, The Netherlands, Denmark) and 1 HEI to be defined. The master will provide the students the necessary skills to monitor and predict soil health depending on the different soil management practices and its application in different sectors landscapes including hands-on activities and participation in living labs. The students will receive the recognition of 120 ECTS with one single diploma awarded by each of the partners with access to doctoral studies. Transversal skills as sustainability, and innovation and entrepreneurship will also be tackled, as well as socioeconomic impact. A realistic and inspiring view on the innovations that may arise from the scientific sections of the program is highlighted.
