Project summary

It is almost no longer possible to distinguish between offline and online activities. By now, all human and non-human activities take place predominantly in what is called the cyberspace or as the modern philosophy has namet it the “onlife” (Floridi, 2018) to define the space between the offline (physical) and online (digital) environments. A space that facilitates the correlation between actions, relationships, not considering space and time factors. The relations concerning the social, political, economic and participatory spheres between the State and the citizens need to be reshaped. At global level, there have been many actions taken and recommendations promoted by government bodies, international organisations (United Nations, OECD, EU) to move more and more towards a digital transformation in step with the times we live in, promoting the sharing of the concepts of ‘digital citizen’; ‘digital government’, ‘digital democracy’, ‘digital participation’, leading to the emergence of new job profiles that are highly specialized in the creation of these tools on the one hand, related to IT developments, and in the management of these tools, reading the socio-political phenomena that compose them, such as the digital government analyst, the civic-tech manager, digital policy consultant. Considering HEIs as the place where people are trained to access the labour market for highly specialised professions, there are very few examples of master's degrees that are interdisciplinary in nature and that enable students to follow specific academic pathways. In this framework, our project Digital Bridges foresees the development, piloting and finalization of a master curriculum addressed to bachelor students, aimed at training new professionals with strong academic skills and ready to meet the job market requests. A 36 months work plan, including 3 HEIs and 1 NGO from European Union and 6 HEIs and 1 NGO from South-Mediterranean countries’ (Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia).
