The project aims to modernize Ukraine’s teacher training system by integrating sustainability-focused education and aligning it with European standards. In response to the urgent educational challenges exacerbated by war, this initiative fosters resilience, inclusivity, and innovation in teacher training, equipping educators to address socio-economic, environmental, and pedagogical challenges. Through a structured, multi-level approach, the project enhances national policies, institutional capacities, and regional accessibility to quality teacher education. It introduces a standardized Education for Sustainable Development curriculum, develops digital teaching resources, and implements professional development programs for pre-service and in-service teachers. These measures bridge gaps in teacher training between urban and rural areas, ensuring equitable access to sustainability education. Moreover, the project strengthens collaboration between Ukrainian universities and European institutions, promoting the exchange of best practices and innovative methodologies. A key project component is developing and institutionalizing a Gender Equality University Strategy, which aligns with EU gender policies and SDG 5, fostering institutional reforms that support gender mainstreaming in Ukrainian higher education. The project establishes SDG University Labs as innovation hubs where educators and students engage in sustainability-oriented research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and practical applications of ESD principles. The initiative directly contributes to the priorities of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education program by fostering international cooperation, enhancing digital transformation in education, and reinforcing EU values. It aligns with the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, particularly in advancing the European Education Area, sustainability objectives under the European Green Deal, and gender inclusion in education.
