The Master of Science in European Forestry (MSc EF) is a two-year MSc programme organised jointly by a Consortium of seven top-level European universities. Our aim is to prepare professionals to tackle the four Grand Challenges in forestry: 1) Climate change and the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disturbances, 2) Lack of biomass for the bioeconomy industry and mitigating CO2 emissions, 3) Declining biodiversity and conversion of forest land to other land uses, and 4) Increasing societal demand for non-market ecosystem services. We will provide students with in-depth knowledge of the "modernised" forest management practices. The Full Partners are: University of Eastern Finland (coordinator); AgroParisTech, France; University of Freiburg, Germany; University of Lleida, Spain; BOKU University, Austria; Transilvania University of Braşov, Romania, and Wageningen University, the Netherlands. In addition, Associated Partner HEIs in Albania, Brazil, Canada, China, Moldova, Nigeria, South Africa, Ukraine and USA and Associated Industrial, Public and NGO Partners contribute to the programme delivery e.g. by providing a variety of internships and visiting lecturers. The first year enhances students' professional knowledge, gives them a practical perspective and familiarises them with working life. The package of elective courses gives students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in their chosen area of specialisation. The second year is based on a package of specialised courses, the MSc thesis and the online seminar. At the end of the second year, all students and graduates come together for the Graduation Ceremony and Working life event. MSc EF graduates will be awarded a joint or a double degree, depending on their host university in the second year. Intensive collaboration and networking with potential employers ensures high graduate employability worldwide. Typically, 40% of graduates are employed in industry and 60% in the public sector.
