Project summary

The project will develop an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in Economics, Management, and Social Sciences for a Sustainable Bioeconomy which equips professionals with interdisciplinary expertise to lead the transition towards a sustainable bioeconomy. By integrating economics, management, and social sciences with scientific knowledge, the program addresses critical gaps in bioeconomy education. This two-year (120 ECTS) program fosters competencies in sustainability assessment, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and cross-cultural communication, grounded in strong theoretical foundations on the multiple innovation pathways and socio-economic trajectories of the bioeconomy. The curriculum combines theoretical frameworks with practical applications, including case studies, industry projects, and fieldwork across France, Italy, and Canada, complemented by online modules from Finland, with potential engagement in Finnish bioeconomy systems. Students will explore diverse regional contexts and governance systems, enhancing their ability to develop innovative, equitable, and sustainable bioeconomy solutions. The program emphasizes transformative knowledge, addressing planetary boundaries and social justice. Through mobility in Europe and North America, students gain firsthand experience in varied contexts. Collaborative projects with industry leaders, policymakers, and civil society organizations provide practical insights and foster networks for career development. A focus on Indigenous knowledge and participatory governance broadens perspectives, preparing students to drive inclusive bioeconomy transitions globally. Graduates will be prepared for roles in public, private, and academic sectors, contributing to bio-based innovations, policy-making, and governance. The program's international and interdisciplinary approach positions it as a reference in bioeconomy education, developing global partnerships and producing leaders capable of driving systemic change.
