Project summary

The aim of the D-AID Erasmus Mundus Design Measure (EMDM) project is to design the first 120-ECTS Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) programme that will equip engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, and physicists with the skills and knowledge to develop, apply, and validate innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for diabetes-related challenges. The international consortium, comprising the University of Girona, University of Bern, and other partner academic, healthcare, and industry institutions, will combine their expertise, research capabilities, and access to healthcare systems and data to develop a high-quality EMJM programme. This collaboration will ensure that students receive technical knowledge and practical training. A steering committee will oversee the project, ensuring it remains on track and aligned with its goals. A clear roadmap outlining the objectives, tasks, and timeline will guide the project’s progress, while regular reports will ensure that any challenges are addressed promptly. This structure will ensure the project is completed on time and within budget. The successful delivery of the developed EMJM programme will offer significant benefits for students, partner institutions, and professionals. Students will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, internships in leading healthcare organisations, and opportunities to contribute to research that could transform diabetes care. Partner institutions will gain access to AI-driven healthcare solutions that could enhance their overall healthcare impact. Academic, healthcare, and research professionals will benefit from engaging in innovative cross-disciplinary research and having access to a pool of motivated students. Ultimately, the D-AID EMDM project will design an EMJM programme that addresses the global health challenge of diabetes through an innovative educational approach that aims to improve diabetes-related health outcomes.
