Albania's tourism sector has significant growth potential but faces challenges in meeting international standards, primarily due to a skills gap in the workforce. The V-ROADS project, involving partners from Italy, Croatia and Albania, aims to address this issue by modernizing Vocational Education and Training (VET) to equip learners with cutting-edge, market-relevant skills, focusing on digital proficiency and inclusive practices. In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, this initiative will enhance the capabilities of Albanian VET institutions, fostering a workforce that is both digitally skilled and sensitive to the needs of all tourists. To align with the changing landscape of skills recognition in Europe, the project will develop short VET courses in tourism that emphasize micro-credentialing principles. Although these courses will primarily award certificates of attendance, they will define learning outcomes aligned with European frameworks like the EQF, facilitating future transferability of skills should micro-credentials become more widely adopted in Albania. The project will focus on key professions within the tourism sector that require enhanced operational efficiency and customer experience. It will develop training workshops to train Albanian VET trainers from public and private providers on specific competencies in areas such as accessible tourism and safety for outdoor activities. Emphasizing outdoor tourism is crucial for promoting year-round visitor flows, addressing issues like overcrowding. The newly trained VET trainers will then apply their skills to deliver six pilot courses in the areas of digital and inclusive tourism, including safe outdoor activities, accessible tourism, hotel management, marketing specialists, inclusive heritage storytelling for tour guides, and event planning. The specific content of the courses will be determined through a comprehensive needs assessment and stakeholder consultations conducted during the initial phase.
