The maritime sector in the European Union (EU) and beyond is the most dangerous one for humans labour. For example, the sinking of ships causes yearly over 1,200 fatalities globally in 2024, primarily due to structural failures, adverse weather, and human error. Major incidents often result in multi-million-euro losses and environmental damage. Explosions and fires cause an annual death tool of 100+ workers and economic loss of €500 million. As well, ports reported over 500 major crane collapses or mechanical malfunctions, leading to injuries, fatalities, and significant operational disruptions with massive environmental impact. As a response, sustainable predictive maintenance (SPMM) solutions delivered via augmented reality, digital twins and industrial metaverse can provide an answer to the harsh human safety, environmental and economioc problems faced by the maritime sector. However, at the current state, the skills and competences of maritime infrastructure engineers, technicians and deep tech providers are substantially lagging to fully support maritime digital twins at their full potential for SPMM. In this context, BLUEVISION aims to: 1) Immerse Society 5.0 in the maritime sector by upskilling 2000 learners (labourers) in SPMM (7 microcourses with ECTS and ECVET - IVET and CVET portability) 2) Launch 7 Entrepreneurial maritime incubators for knowledge triangle integration and shared R&D infrastructure that would spur innovation and entrepreneurial problem solving in SPMM by empowering at least 250 SPMM trainers 3) Support pan-EU skill portability in SPMM by developing an SPMM Competence Framework and Occupational Profiles for the future worksforce in SPMM together with NQFs. 4) Develop an SPMM skills ecosystem platform with an integrated maritime industrial metaverse simulation platform with digital twins available for learners that will be piloted via 200 work-based learning apprentinceships and will support a women in maritime-tech accelerator.
