Power to the Sending Organisation! (PSO) will bring together 11 partners (and 1 associated partner as a consultant) in a joint project coordinated by Alliance and aimed at improving the impact, inclusion and quality of short and long-term volunteer exchange programmes. The members of the consortium share common needs concerning this area: the decrease in the number of volunteers, the difficulty to align volunteers’ motivation with the members’ vision and mission, the lack of capacity to manage the preparation phase, the need to effectively face the emerging trends in volunteering. The project will tackle these issues through the development of new resources designed by the partners, with the contribution of an experienced associated partner from Mexico, which will contribute to enhance the training quality within and beyond the consortium (the resources will be available for other Alliance members). The output will be new “Pre- departure Journeys” on behalf of the sending organisations and their volunteers, who will benefit from high-quality training modules, that trainers will customise according to the participants’ needs and profiles. In addition to that, the project includes a research phase, which will involve experimental groups (volunteers who attended the pre-departure training) and control groups. The research will be extended to hosting organisations and members of the local community. The assumption is that a reinforced pre-departure training will strengthen the impact of short and long-term voluntary projects: volunteers will be more motivated before, during and after their projects, and will increase their commitment to promote and multiply Alliance values of international solidarity, social inclusion and active participation. The Research Report will include a set of recommendations targeted to internal and external stakeholders, aimed at raising awareness of the necessity to improve pre-departure training.
