The project YCHANGE tends to close the wide gap between the usage of earth observation via remote sensing, mostly with satellite image analysis, in science and economy on the one side and school education on the other side. Although remote sensing is relevant in curricula trouhout Europe the meaningful application of satellite image analysis is a rarity. Therefor, the three partners Heidelberg University of Education (Department for Geography), TLU (CET) and Charles University in Prague (ESERO office and AGID) with their respective foci (remote sensing education from a more pedagogical point of view; digital tools for learning; remote sensing from a more scientific point of view) form a consortium in order to develop, implement and evaluate solutions to bring satellite image analysis in school education. The three partners bring in their respective expertises which are complementary to each other. Through frequent virtual confenceres there is a constant communication between the Activity Leading Organisation of each Intellectual Output and the Participating Organisations. At the start and at the end of the project there are transnational project-meetings to strengthen the personal contact, have a starting and ending event together and work intensive on the project as a whole. With four Intellectual Outputs that build up on top one another, satellite image analysis as a method of remote sensing education is going to be implemented into school education. The project partners develop a curricula on remote sensing in schools (O1) and learning materials based on learning concepts on the meta-level for remote sensing in schools (O2). Thematically they deal with several examples of global change in Europe. The learning concepts are going to help teachers develop their own learning materials. Both outputs are going to be integrated in a web-platform for the web-based analysis of satellite images (O3). The web-platform integrates the web-based running software BLIF which has been developed for ssatellite image analysis in schools and has already proven its practicability. The web-platform also contents webinars, a FAQs area and a forum for communication and exchange. These three outputs are going to be implemented into scholl education via Multiplier Events in Czech Republic, Estonia and Germany (M1-M12). The participators are going to be mainly teachers at schools of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network, teachers in exposed positions and dedicated teachers. For other interested teachers and the public there are webinars offered. The participators shall use the curricula, the learning materials and the web-platform in their lessons and multiply it to their colleagues. Teachers give feedback on the curricula and the learning concepts, teachers and students give feedback on the learning modules and the web-platform, students do a pre-post-test on their idea how jobs are impacted by digital geomedia. With the evaluated data, these Intellectual Ouputs can be further enhanced. This cycle of design, implementation, evaluation and re-design is a methodology is called educational design research, it combines qualitative and quantitative methods. The results of the satellite image analysis done are going through a quality check to proof how scientifically correct they are. Step by step there is going to evolve a web-map on human-induced environmental changes and their consequences on humanity in Europa (O4). In this web-map, which is going to be within the web-platform as well, the good results of the satellite image analysis are shown. This web-map is going to be another starting point for lessons on remote sensing and global change. It is expected that teachers can develop and use meaningful learning modules using satellite image analysis. Students get to know in which jobs remote sensing is used, why it is used and get insights into jobs working with satellite images. Students are going to get attracted to STEM (remote sensing, environmental changes). Through the feedback of teachers and students the Intellectual Outputs are going to be fitting into school education perfectly and bring satellite image analysis in school education.
