Our project is the culmination of work done by 6 schools in 5 European countries, including one Special Needs School. All of our school communities are currently faced with the situation of refugees coming to our countries. The schools have different profiles and serve varied communities. We are all passionately committed to working together and have the desire to address shared social issues and allow teachers to learn from each other. Our project deals with the important social issue that is having an effect on all our communities to some extent, whether it be directly through the influx of immigrants and asylum seekers, or indirectly through the lack of empathy communities feel towards their plight. To engage the children at all of our schools we are using the medium of the United Nation's Children's Rights. This will enable all of our children to see what they should have a right to expect from our society as well as feeling empathy with those less fortunate than ourselves. Our project addresses the diverse nature of our European society and it develops the social, civic and inter-cultural competencies. It will combat discrimination and segregation. Our project will help participants to pursue stimulating opportunities for learning across Europe. They will gain valuable life-skills and international experience to help them develop personally, professionally and academically and to succeed in today's world.Professionally the identified teachers will strengthen their teaching profile through collaborative work and sharing best practice. They will adopt new methods and tools and disseminate these ideas to a wider circle of staff at their own school.
Migration issues arise in the context of social development and the debates of the social partners at various levels. These were the reason for our project "I AM A CHILD AND I DO HAVE RIGHTS". This project is a cooperation of six schools from five countries, which differ significantly in their social structure and educational programmes (among others, the coordinating school is a special school for children with emotional and social development problems). These schools differ in their social and conceptual structure, but are all confronted with migration and asylum seekers. By withdrawing migration and applying for asylum, abstracting it through the medium of the UNCR, it has been possible to improve empathy, social and intercultural competences and child-friendly tolerance. We have also sensitised our pupils to discrimination and social segregation, in line with the European spirit. The cooperation between our schools, already established in earlier projects, was seamlessly continued in the current project. Within the framework of various workshops on topics and methods and best practice, our teachers received further training in various areas (art, photography and image processing, music and recording techniques, social learning). The project could make an important contribution to the professionalization of the teachers as well as to the personality development of the students. The international exchange revived and enriched professionalism and school life.
