Project summary

The high school IES Cánovas del Castillo (Málaga) decided to propose this project with the conviction that its making would improve significantly the school in different aspects: improvement of the attention to the students diversity, with the consequent improvement of academic results (especially of the most disadvantaged students) and reduction of absenteeism and dropping out of school; implementation of innovative teaching/learning techniques that foster permanent learning; development of basic competences that help the student to deal successfully with the present world (communicative and digital competences) and that encourage to put into practice some knowledge especially demanded in our society (to contribute to the preservation, improvement and sustainability of our environment; to foster the enterprising spirit to be able to compete with more guarantees of success in the labour market); and, finally, acquisition of a permanent European perspective that enriches the academic experience of students and enlarges their academic and working expectations. The five schools which participates in the project, though their different start points, agree on the need to cooperate to facilitate the achievement of these common objectives and, thanks to their specialization or experience in European projects, can guarantee the success of the project: IES Cánovas del Castillo stands out for its great diversity (of students, curricula, programs) and its activities related to bilingualism (Spanish/French, Spanish/English); IISS Patini Liberatore (Castel di Sangro), for its involvement in Erasmus+ and eTwinning projects; National High School of Informatics Tudor Vianu (Bucharest), for its specialization in Informatics and Sciences, its national and international projection, and its good results in Foreign Languages; Vilniaus Pilaites (Vilnius), for its involvement in environmental projects and its activities to foster the enterprising spirit; Group of Schools Dr. Ginestal Machado (Santarém), for the students diversity, its programs to develop transversal competences and its encouragement of European identity. The cooperation in the project, on line and face to face (we will have two transnational meetings of coordinators and five mobilities of students and teachers to each school) will allow the exchange of good practices, the improvement of all schools in the key topics of the project and, eventually, the development of future project, realistic and viable. We will use an active and practical methodology, placing the student at the centre of the teaching process, based on project- or competences-based learning, which stimulates their autonomy and creativity, the use of digital tools, the cooperation among equals and the development of multiple intelligence (for instance, emotional and interpersonal); the teachers will guide this process and help the students in the different tasks (before, during and after the mobilities), which will produce different results: banks of Open Educative Resources over the teaching of different subjects; improvement and implementation of the most efficient measures for the attention to the students diversity (for instance, Learning Communities, Bank of Time); creation of "sustainable" companies in terms of economical, environmental and ethical values; implementation of "green" strategies, measures of energy efficiency and waste management, at school and at home; development of activities for the dynamization of school libraries; improvement of digital and communicative competences (especially on native language and English) and reinforcement of CLIL approaches, and development of personal and social competences. The benefits of our project will be extended to the whole school community: students (they will live and develop interculturality, enterprising spirit and ecological consciousness; their motivation will increase and their academic results will be better); teachers (they will have new teaching resources and will develop the activities); and families(they will cooperate in activities, becoming more involved in school life: fostering students, energy eficiency measures and waste management). With our dissemination plan we will reach out to other schools and educational institutions, companies of different areas, and all the citizens in general, in all levels (local, national, European), through traditional and digital media, web pages, eTwinning platform, forums and social media. We fully trust the sustainability of the project (consolidation at school of internationalization teams, development of complementary projects, reinforcement of strategies based on project- and competences-based learning and on interdisciplinarity, extension of "green" and "enterprising" programs, and internalization of fundamental values (respect for other languages and cultures, open mindedness; ability for dialogue, problem solving and decision making; intellectual curiosity).
