Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the term for a range of movement difficulties which are caused when the parts of the brain which control such movements do not work properly. It is the commonest cause of significant physical impairment in children. CP occurs in 2-3 per 1000 live births and is the commonest disabling condition in childhood. (Source: Surveillance of Cerebral Palsy in Europe network). Currently in Turkey, Bulgaria and Spain the training of home and health caregivers are provided in post graduate courses or in the system of VET. There is no common program addressing the care of those children in EU and there is no formal training for the personal care givers serving for the individuals with CP far now. It is exactly known that all individuals with cerebral palsy need care and rehabilitation program according to their potential and needs. So the aim of this CP Care project is to establish a common and standardized curriculum and/or training program for the personal caregivers in the care and rehabilitation of the children with cerebral palsy. This will help those people to become certified personal caregiver and help those people with special needs. The CP-CARE training programme itself will have one major goal - to increase the independence of these children in the activities of daily living by training their caregivers in practical therapeutic support and correct follow up daily care advices. The project will contribute to the development of the new didactic approaches (mobile learning) to support the quality of VET in the EU area of skills and qualification - EQF level 3. The project proposal is involving all key players in the rehabilitation and caregiving arena from Turkey (4), Bulgaria (1), Spain (1) and Belgium (1): 1 university,1 counseling body,1 National association of parents of children with CP,3 caregiving and physiotherapy centres, 1 National representative body of the professionals working with people with disabilities. To ensure this can be achieved,CP-Care will generate:O1: Scoping didactic frameworkO2: Production of a dedicated curriculum and relevant training material for CP psychotherapeutic caregiving, based on ECVET learning outcomes approach which ensures transparency of physiotherapists in every country in the EU and beyond and in accordance with transparency of qualifications (both in connection with NQF levels of equivalent of EQF level 3).O3: Development of an innovative mobile training application that will allow for an interactive learning experience anytime anywhere (Android based), multilingual, and following the Open Source approach (so "free"), provided to physiotherapists working in paediatrics and home and health caregivers. It will serve as a peer learning platform between physiotherapists and caregivers.O4: Usability and exploitation report.CP-CARE will organised 32 blended transnational mobilities of VET staff in Turkey, Bulgaria and Spain. The project products are meant for direct impact on:1. Physiotherapists and caregivers - they will directly exploit the project outcomes (O1-O4) into their daily practices (free of charge). 2. People with CP and their families - they will benefit directly from the improved quality of the services offering by physiotherapists and caregivers. 3. Associations / organisations offering physiotherapy and personal care-giving aimed at provision of training by special education and rehabilitation clinics, incorporating it in their current training practices. The CP-CARE curriculum and supported tools can be used by pediatric rehabilitation clinics, contributing to long-term educational objectives.4. VET centres offering trainings in the field of Home and Health care - they will be able to include the CP-CARE training course into their offers based on the national qualification framework and state educational requirements. 5. Non-profit organisations working with people with disabilities 6. Governmental bodies - institutions responsible for social policy. All outcomes will be available for free under CC/OSS license schemes ("for free") and as OER to physiotherapists, caregivers and rehabilitation centres, as well as people with CP themselves, while the mobile application will be launched for free on Google Play. This proposal is addressing 2 horizontal and sectoral priorities: Development of high quality work-based VET and its contribution to the development of a European Area of Skills and Qualifications by developing new approaches (mobile learning) to strengthen the education and training paths of personal caregivers and physiotherapists. To ensure the uptake and sustainability / exploitation of the CP-CARE outputs, the consortium has selected a 36 months duration to ensure that:- all outputs have been validated in an alpha, beta and final version;- all bureaucratic barriers have been overcome to ensure successful accreditation and inclusion in existing VET/Higher education curricula.
The CP-CARE project was focused on the Cerebral palsy (CP) – the most common physical disability in childhood, with a prevalence of 2–3 per 1000 live births in Europe and the improvement of the quality of the care provision towards kids with CP. The term CP encompasses a heterogeneous group of disorders, causing activity limitations that are attributed to non-progressive disturbances that occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain. The motor disorders of CP are often accompanied by disturbances of sensation, perception, cognition, communication, behavior, by epilepsy and by secondary musculus-skeletal problems. The level of disabilities of children with CP is widely distributed, and not limited to motor disturbances. Other disturbances include disturbances of cognition, communication and behavior. The management of CP is based on a multidisciplinary team approach including pediatricians, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social workers, special educators, orthopedic surgeons. This project gave the opportunity for caregivers to follow up on the basic and essential exercises or therapeutic interventions and the usage of assistive and/or adaptive devices needed for the children with cerebral palsy in their daily life. The developed curriculum and training material have been developed by a consensus of the professionals working in the CP-CARE project. CP-CARE project contributed to the basic knowledge and principles about the evidence based care intervention as well as updating knowledge, skills and competences of the caregivers. The CP-CARE training programme itself had one major goal – to increase the independence of these children in the activities of daily living by training the caregivers as well as the physiotherapist’s practical therapeutic support and correct follow up daily care advices for the neuro-musculoskeletal system. The project achieved successfully its main aims and objectives through the development of the following Intellectual Outputs: • IO1: CP-CARE scoping didactic framework The scoping didactic framework document was concluded based on a predefined quantitative and qualitative analysis of the national findings related to physiotherapy provision at home by caregivers, physiotherapists and supportive organisations. This update was really needed since between the submission and starting of the project there were changes in terms of policy and service provision, which the partnership were not able to predict. The framework consists of caregivers' needed skills and competences, blended learning methodology description and pedagogical approach for the delivery of the CP-CARE training curriculum and modular course. • IO2: CP-CARE curriculum, training course and assessment mechanism (ECVET based) This output outlines the content for the mobile and online learning platform in terms of exercises, supporting material (audio, video, text, images). Here the educational approach was crucial, especially when considering the target users group of physiotherapists and caregivers. The created curriculum and subsequent content was fine-tuned throughout the project duration, following an iterative approach. The content of this output includes the following modules in all partner languages + English: Module 0 Introduction Module 1 Prevention of secondary problems Module 2 Basic Principles of Treatment and Care Module 3 Assistive Technology and CP Module 4 Physiotherapy Module 5 Rehabilitation Programs Module 6 Other Physiotherapy and/or Complementary Interventions Module 7 Burnout of caregivers • IO3: CP-CARE mobile application for Android tab An innovative mobile training platform has been developed. It allows for an interactive learning experience anytime and anywhere (PC/smartphone/tablet PC -Android- based online learning platform/application), multilingual, and following the Open Source approach (“for free”), provided freely to the families, home and health caregivers via https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpcare.mobile. The platform is embedded in a multilingual CP-Care portal (http://cpcare.eu/elearning/) that brings together relevant information and services. It serves as a peer-learning platform between the caregivers, and allows to maintain the mobile content. • IO4: Usability and exploitation report This report presents the national findings in terms of the pilot implementation phase, and description of the gathered impact. The project results were launched via 2 important multiplier events: 19/06/19 in Ankara, Turkey and 02/10/19 in Ypers, Belgium. Both events attracted more than 200 national and EU practitioners in the field of CP care provision. The project also successfully realised blended learning and training activities for VET trainers - C1: Istanbul, Turkey (June '18), C2: Madrid, Spain (November '18), C3: Brussels/Ypers/Poperinge, Belgium (October '19). All project results are freely available in EN/TR/BG/NL/ES via: www.cpcare.eu
