Project summary

As education institutions, we are aware of the fact that the world is constantly changing and developing. Reaching the knowledge is the basic of that change. The countries producing, developing and spreading the knowledge are far in the front in the name of techonolgy and education. As partners we realized that science&information are the key of the future. All the other branches such as education, economy, medicine, industry..etc develop under the sicence. Also PISA science results take part to show countries' places where they are arround the world. Science is the major field taught and studied in this partnership. So accordingly project idea is created and the main reasons of the project are reported and the questions listed. Then coordinator school(Turkey) shared information about project idea, topic, target and aims on e-twinning and linkedin. Also they shared same information on erasmus+ partner search group of facebook. After that they evaluated all demands according to similar difficulties and needs on science learning&teaching. Partnerships in this project are established between 5 schools. They are Turkey,Spain,Italy,Czech Republic and Hungary. With the communications and conversations among partners the needs that come out in the light of those assessements are;A) Partner Schools' needs-To increase the level of success on science subjects-To raise/growe more youth generation who are interest in science and working on it-To increase activities direct the attention and interest of students in science-To find, produce, multiply and spread the right solutions to deep problems such as behavior&puberty among pupils in partner countries and EuropeB) Participants' needs-To be low awareness of pupils/teachers/parents on science literacy-To increase the interest and curiosity of pupils to science subjects/lessons-To increase the time students dedicate to science outside school-To prevent groupings based on the hierarchical structure in class and outside that pressure on other pupils-To waste their(pupils)puberty energy on negative ways such as behaviour problems among themselves-To prefer using laboratory-based learning method that supports learning by doing less on lessons(teachers)-To prefer using modern technology and tools(ICT) on lessons more(teachers)-To use new student-centered approaches and methods more on lessons.C) Community needs-Not implementing metodogical solutions and sceintific approach to youth problems-Not organizing activities that increase the students’ interest and awareness that help develop the students’ cognitive, sensory and psychological overview. The aims of this project is increasing success of science subjects/the awareness of the science and technology literacy among students aged 14-18 years old at the partner schools(more than 2000 pupils, aged 14-18 years old), among many teachers and parents at least 50% and provide science education with modern technology and tools(ICT), laboratory-based learning/student-centered approaches and methods that supports learning by doing. Also to announce and acknowledge the subject local-wide, nation-wide and European-wide. To reach this goal to keep the sustainability of this project it is planned to organize short term exchange of pupils (short teaching activities, team works, joint workshops, organising informative campaigns, presentations, organising fest, field visits..) and short term joint staff events (team works, joint workshops, additions to curriculum, field visits…) through the medium of learning teaching training activities, also through the medium of dissemination (brochures posters, DVD, short-film, website, booklet, informative campaigns, final fest..)among parents and local people, with the help of the press among the whole society, an awareness will be constructed. The success and impact of the project will be measured by means of surveys, articles and reports. After the project by continuing sharing the information using social networks like e-twinning, facebook, youtube will help the sustainability of the project. Furthermore, the objectives of the project are going to be shared with local authorities, neighborhod schools, teachers, students, parents by the help of activities held in the school and outside for dissemination of the project. The products of the project are range from broochures, presentations, videos, seminars to photos. Those products are going to be presented mostly on school project boards, local newspapers, on the schools website and via e-twinning. In accordance with the activities, partner schools will be able to add methods to curriculum, with a common European dimension, based on the students' psychological, sensory and cognitive learning parellel with constructive approach by doing and living.

Final report summary

The starting point of project is the programme for international student assessment “Pisa exam”.According to 2015 pisa exam results,Turkey is far behind when Physics,Chemstry and Biology are taken into account.Science literacy average(the rates of high level student performance) is especially under average in Turkey. In Turkey, rate is at the level of %0.3.OECD average is %7.8.Each partner school prepared a report by taking their own 2015 Pisa Science results into consideration.According to this report and project management team’s meeting decisions, below actions were done as a school; -Science lessons were regulated to be done as %60 theoretical(in class)and %40 practical(in lab)in weekly lesson plan -The number of students taking project work from science lessons increased thanks to activities based on applied experiment, observation -Fatih Project ICT tools were used during the experiment-observation applications in science lessons -Performance studies given to students each term were assessed as experiment-observation output but not paper report -Cooperation protocol was signed with the university and teacher-student visit provided mutually. Thanks to this cooperation protocol, the experiment based lesson awareness of students risen -Observation,experiment studies prepared by students were delivered to school teachers, students and parents at LTSDU science fair.During year, science campaings, informing, contests, seminars were organized parellel with students performance studies -Practical learning model was tried to be carried out in classroom atmosphere.Perfomance studies were presentation of products emerged in classes -Science teachers carrying out project preferred practical learning(lab-based learning),learning by doing approach by %30 rather than classical method(theoretical core transfer)in their annual plan and training courses plans. They also suggested this model to their colleagues. -Main objective of project is to increase students science literacy to %50.It is necessary to use constructive method so as to take student to center and to supply student permanent learning by learning by doing. It is also important for tachers to help students get idea of “to use knowledge in their daily life”.Besides, students were supported by scientific activities such as seminars, presentations and science fair.It is observed that by help of above activities, approaches and conducted questionnaire, students‘ science literacy increased. Turkish,Spanish and Hungarian schools are secondary school.Italian and Chech schools are vocational high schools whose education based on electronic, computer sciences and science.Project was conducted by those five partners. Here are activities done; -Questionnaires showing preliminary knowledge of target group(teacher/student),development and result were prepared and applied -Project was introduced to school administration, teachers and students via presentations and conferences -Project corner and board prepared and updated throughout duration of project -Countries’ classes hanginformation about common countries’ cultures on Project board -Project website was prepared by Chech and updated regularly -Project web pages and project blog sites were formed on school web sites -Project page was created and kept up-to–date on E-twinning portal -Pisa 2015 results evaluated and reported -Observed modern laborotiries thanks to university trips -Wide-ranging LTSDU science fairs organized -Project international logo contest organized(Hungary) -Scientific developments were followed(performance studies) -Both teachers and students set up project teams -Project management team held meetings permenantly -Posters,brochures,banners were used for the purpose of dissemination.Municipalities, universities,National Education Directors and schools were visited and these materials were distributed -The students organized scientific information campaigns -Seminars related to Science and Adolescence were delivered by teachers and academicians -Memory booklet was prepared by Spain -Project DVD was prepared by Italia Here are the obtained results and impacts: Students; -learned how to search, organize, select, share and collect scientific knowledge -got the oppurtunity to use the theoretical knowledge in their daily life(science literacy). -formed European consciousness by communicating with their European peers with help of E-twinning portal and mobilities -increased adaptation capacity by interacting with new educational environment -by gripping importance of science, students are going to spend enough time to experiments, homework and testing both at school and out of school Teachers; -shared educational, pedagogical practises mutually with European teachers -adapted to new contexts, knowledge -brought new dynamism to their working environment with their colleagues -used laborotary based learning model which supports learning by doing -Improved foreign language skills -Used ICT actively in their classes
