CONTEXT For some time, we have seen a loss of motivation in some of our students. This has negative consequences such as absenteeism and dropping out. To ensure that our impression was real, we surveyed all of our students. It turned out that indeed some students did not feel in their place at school and it caused a boredom in their schooling. We then set up an educational team to reflect on the subject. Quickly, we turned to authors, researchers and other educators who posed a similar statement to our and proposed solutions. We decided to sort out and test things like reverse class, new technologies, and so on. Nevertheless, we are only at the beginning of our research and it seems to us that it would be interesting to work in collaboration with other teachers facing a similar problem. What is better than to turn to European colleagues in order to exchange ideas and points of view. PARTICIPANTS We then sought out partners using the etwinning platform. Many schools have come up and we have had to make a careful sorting. Finally, we were able to create a group of six. We all share the starting point and all have the will to do something in order to fight it. Each of us is endowed with an open mind and a will to undertake concrete actions. The six partner countries are: Ireland, Portugal, Croatia, Italy, Estonia and Belgium. OBJECTIVES 1) Innovate pedagogical practices 2) Varying learning 3) Enhance Remediation 4) Making learning time profitable ACTIVITIES The activities are multiple and serve different purposes. The first step is to measure the impact of the starting point in each of the participating schools. To do this, students will have to think together and prepare an online questionnaire. They will have to imagine the questions themselves and analyze the results afterwards. Afterwards, other activities will allow the students to work together and it will be the opportunity to test teaching tools such as the flipped classroom and the use of new technologies (BYOD, smart board, etc.). In particular, they will be asked to create an eMagazine. All these activities must be aimed at the success of the different objectives, but above all to ensure that students find a new interest in learning through collaborative work, sharing, use of a foreign language, etc. METHODOLOGY We intend to put forward a democratic methodology for each aspect of the project. This is really a collaborative project, not a single member. The theme of the project is above all school and our objectives are clear. We all have a common goal and we intend to make it happen. We realize the scale of the task and therefore we will create Eramsus + groups within our schools: a group composed of a teacher and a group composed of students. While the former will focus on practical aspects, the latter will focus more on pedagogical aspects. We believe that if students themselves participate in the development of learning techniques, they will be more effective. RESULTS The result is ambitious but aims to find techniques and teaching methods to combat the boredom of students at school. We are aware that we will not revolutionize education, but we want to move forward in this fight at our level. Each of the tools created will be tested in the different schools and the activities of the students will be widely shared in order to encourage as many other learners to take part. For the impact can not be limited only to the students participating in the project but to all of our schools. DURABILITY We hope that the results of the project will go far beyond the temporal limits of the project. Ideally, the tools created and the methods discovered and tested will need to be reused in the future. We can even imagine improving them over time. In addition to this, the benefits to students will be difficult to quantify, but if they succeed in developing the following points, they will serve them all their lives: Towards autonomy Developing coping skills Developing the collaborative spirit Take initiatives Learning to Self-Assess
Historical context Registered in a semi-rural environment, our school has a relatively homogeneous population in all points of view. Nevertheless, we have noticed - and we continue to notice - a certain lack of interest in the school thing on the part of some of our students. Therefore, a few years ago, several teachers supervised by the headmistree began to think on the issue and tried to provide various answers. One of these was to launch an Erasmus+ project, taking as problem the motivation at school and as a hypothetical solution the use of innovative teaching methods as well as the use of ICT in our classrooms. Now that the theme of the project was defined, we had to find partners with similar problems to ours. Indeed, our project idea was to collaborate with colleagues from various European countries to find practical solutions together. So we posted an ad on the eTwinning platform, and we quickly received a lot of responses. So we did a sorting taking into account the seriousness of the candidates but especially by ensuring that they experience a similar educational situation to ours. Once sorted, we found five partner schools. Goals Our initial goal was therefore to ensure that our students regained some motivation in school through the use of teaching techniques and methods deviating from the traditional way, notably through the use of certain information and communication technologies (ICT). We wanted to take advantage of this to create a bridge between the Erasmus + project and the Digital School project, which we won in 2017. From this main objective came a series of sub-objectives such as those detailed in the application file: innovate its teaching practices, varying learning, improve remediation, etc. Participants The audience we were aiming for was twofold: students and teachers. It was decided between partners to make four mobilities over the total duration of the project. At each of them, each school had to involve three students accompanied by two teachers. It may not seem like much, but it seemed more efficient to offer various activities to a small group of people. We could then make sure of the direct impact. As far as the profile of the participants is concerned, they were chosen among the pupils by drawing lots. We considered that this was the fairest and most equitable way to proceed. We did not distinguish between the socio-economic background, the results or the level of English of our students. Activities All activities were reflected in the drafting of the application file so that they serve the main objective of the project as well as its sub-objectives. It was up to each partner school to imagine an activity related to our general problematic. To ensure consistency and similar requirements, the working method was repeated at each mobility. Thus, upstream of a mobility, students had to prepare a presentation work in their own school. During the actual mobility, these same students had to present the fruit of their work. Downstream of the mobility, a survey was submitted to the students involved in order to know their opinion on the course of mobility. Each of the activities required two phases of preparation: 1. A literature search concerning the subject treated; The realization of a visual presentation using an ICT. In the current of the moblilités, the students had then to present orally their subject in English. In summary, we tried to involve the students as much as possible by entrusting them tasks related to the theme of the subject. Results and impacts The results were measured directly through the surveys offered to students and teachers at the end of each mobility. Concerning the impact and sustainability of the activities, it is difficult for us to measure. Nevertheless, we can say that certain techniques and teaching methods continue today to be used in our classes on a daily basis. As a result, we have greatly expanded the audience reached by the project. Teachers have shown interest in some innovative methods or the use of ICT. As such, it can be considered that the project has had, and continues to have, a real impact on a relatively large community. In addition, all student productions and results have been recorded on our Twinspace page so that everyone can consult them at their leisure.
