Project summary

The idea of this project is based on the previous cooperation of three agricultural high schools - the Danish school in Hong, the Spanish school in Chauchina and the Czech school in Decin as an applicant organisation. The project will contribute to meeting the needs of all partner schools: to improve the quality of teaching methods, of transmitted knowledge, skills and competencies - both theoretical and practical, and of language teaching and learning. Our project is aimed at finding contrasts and balance between nature preservation and intensive agricultural production in different European countries. The main objective of the project is to provide new experience and knowledge to students of agricultural high schools from the Czech Republic, Spain and Denmark through virtual and learning and training activities in various national parks and agricultural enterprises. During the two-year project period, we will cooperate with partner organisations such as national parks and agricultural companies. All participating students and teachers will attend virtual and learning and training activities. We plan to organise three 5-day learning and training activities, one in each country, that will be attended by six students and one teacher from each partner school. During practical activities related to the protection and preservation of nature, students will learn about the connection between environment, specific activities necessary for nature protection, and agricultural production. During the preparation period before each learning activity abroad, students will do virtual activities prepared by the school organising the following learning activity. Teachers, students and representatives from cooperating organisations will create presentations and learning materials and provide them to partner schools to learn from them. The management of national parks and agricultural companies where the studens will learn and work will prepare and manage the programme of the learning and training activities. The students will have a unique opportunity to learn plant and animal species of each ecosystem in various national parks in the Czech Republic (Czech Switzerland) and Spain (Sierra Nevada National Park), and practise specific activities which are necessary to do regularly in a national park in order to ensure nature and landscape protection and its sustainability. They will also learn more about damages on ecosystems of national parks caused by interventions at neighbouring fields and agricultural premises, and how to minimise them. They will also have an opportunity to see different approaches to agricultural production in different countries. Czech and Spanish students will have a unique opportunity to learn about the most modern European technologies used in Denmark, which is famous for its livestock production and pig breeding. All students will learn various methods in different conditions. They will also gain a comprehensive knowledge on the importance of human activity for nature protection, its preservation and sustainable development, and on reasonable use of nature in friendly cooperation with agricultural production. They will have a unique opportunity to view the subject of their studies in a different context as well. The project can also influence pupils during deciding on future studies or on their future business. We also expect that teachers participating in the organisation of all activities will benefit from the project as the topic is kind of unusual. The issue of environment and agricultural production is often viewed and taught separately. In this project, we will try to find possible contrasts between them. We also expect that we would be able to put this new experience in the curriculum of our schools and continue in cooperating with people from national parks and with other experts involved in the project regularly. All partner schools will be able to use all presentations created and used during the project activities. All partner schools cooperate with many social partners who provide practical training for our students within practical education. They could also adopt our experience from the project and cooperation on this project might lead to further cooperation with them. The whole project will be carried in the English language, which is also a considerable benefit for all participants. All employees of our organisation involved in the project administration would benefit by getting new experience.

Final report summary

The idea of this project was based on the previous cooperation of three agricultural secondary schools - the Danish school Landbrugskollen Sjaeland in Höng, the Spanish school EFA El Soto in Chauchina and the Czech school Libverda in Děčín as an applicant organization. The aim of the project was to contribute to meeting the needs of all partner schools: to improve the quality of teaching methods, the transfer of knowledge, skills and competences - both theoretical and practical, and to improve the knowledge of foreign languages. The project was aimed at finding the contrasts and balance between nature conservation and intensive agricultural production in different European countries. The main objective of the project was to provide students of agricultural secondary schools from the Czech Republic, Spain and Denmark with new experience and knowledge through virtual and educational activities in various national parks and farms. During the two-year project, we organized three international partners meetings and three five-day training activities, one in each partner country. First, there was a preparatory period in which pupils with teachers from the school organizing upcoming educational activities created presentations and learning materials focused on their country, school, national parks and agriculture in their country. During making these presentations, the pupils cooperated with experts from national parks and farms. These presentations were then sent to partner schools so that their pupils and teachers could prepare for the upcoming educational activities. Then, six students and one teacher from each partner school took part in five-day educational activities, during which students did practical activities in national parks and on farms and learned about the links between the environment, specific activities necessary for nature conservation and agricultural production. Management of national parks and farms where students learned and worked, prepared and managed the program of educational activities. During educational activities in all partner countries, students had the opportunity to learn about the plant and animal species of ecosystems of different national parks in the Czech Republic (Bohemian Switzerland National Park) and Spain (Sierra Nevada National Park) and in Denmark's protected landscape areas. They carried out specific activities necessary to ensure the protection of nature and the landscape and its sustainability. They learned about damage to national park ecosystems caused by interventions in neighboring fields and agricultural areas and how to minimize them. They also had the opportunity to see different approaches to agricultural production in different countries. Czech and Spanish students had the opportunity to learn about the most modern technologies used in Denmark, which is known for its livestock and pig farming. During the project period students did virtual activities in English using various communication means such as social networks and mobile phones (Whatsapp, Instagram, Messenger etc.). The project was attended by students and teachers of agricultural fields. The virtual and preparatory activities of the school organizing educational activities were always attended by pupils from several classes of agricultural branches, only 6 pupils and 1 teacher participated in the training activities abroad. During the whole project period students created groups and communicated through social media in English language. By participating in this project, pupils have a better understanding of the importance of human activities necessary for nature conservation and sustainable development, as well as the importance of maintaining a balance between nature use and intensive agricultural production. They had the opportunity to look at the topic of their studies in a different context, which in particular can affect pupils in their future business. We expect to continue working with the staff from the national parks and farms involved in the project. All partner schools will be able to use all presentations created during project activities. The whole project was carried in English, which was also a great benefit for all participants.
