Project summary

As the name itself suggests, „Waking up in Baroque“ project should draw students´ attention to one of the most notable historical periods in oder to make the whole subject more gripping and exciting for them. Our objective goes far beyond repeating general facts and knowledge as regards to music and architecture only. Experiencing baroque in its dailiness, creating and trying things first-hand should make the real difference, be it associated with baroque fashion, music, dance, craft, preparation of delicious period meals, cures to period ilnesses, period judicature and other areas of everyday life. We will call the atmosphere to mind with its everyday insecurity about what the next day might bring (in contrast to the comfort of the present day). And since we are modern people, all pieces of knowledge and experiences will be computer-aided, processed with the assistance of modern technologies. Thus, we will make an effort to truly interconnect the past with the present and the future to prove that history is not lifeless/dead. We may experience fellow feeling with people who lived their lives in the past, most likely to to discover that there is a lot we have in common, that their lives were not that different from ours in certain basic aspects. Our activities and partial outputs will correspond with our objectives: we will hold a fashion show, stroll through the baroque city, listen to Bach´s compositions, identify with period sculptors, interconnect current and baroque art by creation graffitti based on typical baroque signs, create a period toy, experience the lives of saints. All the findings and experiences will be shared and summarized on the project website. We will prefer (and learn form one other) methods which will activate students´ creativity and open attiude to learning. Such methods will also teach them to be self-reliant and develop their organizational skills. Also teachers will benefit form the project, namely by implementing new methods, modern technologies, workshops and student-focused work. Guiding students and stretching their imagination towards understanding that baroque – despite regional differences – is all-European universal line of thought/art form/style, represents another significant aspect, which can be one of parallel ways for realization of present Europe complexity. There are four schools from different parts of Europe entering the project (Germany, Lithuania, Italy, The Czech Republic). Each of them will focus on different areas of life in baroque.
