Project summary

Project summary. Title: “Cultural and environmental global citizenship” - a project between two schools in Belgium and Denmark. Profile/context: (DK) Since 2014 Danehofskolen has been engaged in developing a focus on the international dimension. This has resulted in a new structure of our lower secondary school, which is now divided in to 3 different “lines”, including the international line. In addition, the school is currently in the process of becoming a “Grøn school”, which is the Danish branch of the international Eco-schools programme withun the EU (BE) Our school has a long tradition in innovating education in Flanders. We are the leading school in a movement called 'LIEN-Vlaanderen', a project which brings together schools who want to give as much children as possible, from different social classes, a basic education and to let them learn according to their personal skills and interests. They learn with eachother and from eachother, and so we want to let them grow as young, open-minded adults with an important cultural awareness. 'Environment' has been a important topic in our school for many years: we're labelled as a 'Groene school' because of our efforts on environmental issues. "Cultural and environmentally global citizenship" The project intends to encourage and enable students to become potential global citizens by embracing peoples differences and protecting the environment . In a transcultural context the students will be able to meet national differences and similarities and achieve a better understanding of themselves and others. Objectives: In the project “Cultural and enviromental global citizenship” we expect our students to achieve cultural reflection and eenvironmental awareness. Culturally, we expect our students to increase their language skills, self-confidence and personal independence. Students will be willing to embrace cross-cultural activities, studying and eventually seek potentiel work opportunities later on. In addition, this project includes an exchange based private visiting and hosting, as families will host a visiting student from Belgium/ Denmark. Enviromentally, we expect the students to engage in some of the UN’s 17 measurable sustainable development goals, regarding environmental issues. Such as affordable and clean energy, climate action, industry innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production. Exchange of good practise: As the two schools are quite compatable our main goal is to exchange good practise by offering the students a teaching programme that will show students differences and similarities within the two countries regarding our main topics - cultural and enviromental understanding Oktober/November 2017: Preparation meeting: 2 Belgian teachers and 1 headmaster visiting Nyborg March/ April 2018: 24 Belgians students and 2 teachers visiting Nyborg March/April 2018: 2 Preparation meeting: 2 Danish teachers visiting in Hasselt April/ May 2018 : 24 Danish students and 2 teachers visiting Hasselt September/October 2018: Evaluation meeting: 2 Danish teachers visiting in Hasselt Danish activities, April 2018: 4 visits to sleeping partners: Vestas (windmill production) - Ecokem (industrial waste) and local innovative plactic sorting company - and finally a visit to the European Enviromental agency in Copenhagen.
