This project idea evolved from the experience of the consortium`s partners working with multinational groups consisted of immigrants, refugees and local unemployed people in educational programs. The impact analysis of the interventions carried on by partners in their own local and national context demonstrates that the direct and active involvement of individuals with different cultural and historical backgrounds in a common logical space (such as in cooking activities) can open up to a fruitful process of mutual empowerment, share and inclusion. In this context the project will be based in a 3 level Learning scheme: - basic formal & informal education (ICT, home economics, nutritional diet); - maintenance of cultural/traditional heritage for the immigrants and refugees; - its transferability to local community as an indicator of Integration Specifically the new educational tool we want to propose in this project is the “Healthnic Diet” workshops where participants will have the opportunity to acquire basic skills such as vocabulary concerning food and nutrition, home economics, healthy diet education and also they can create informational and educational Digital Stories focused on the above but also on cultural-traditional aspects to foster the inclusion in the cultural context of each partner country. We believe that this educational tool can cover the above needs so we planned a project that will - create an OER educational platform that will address to a learning community which can find all the produced materials by the project -creatie a methodological guide for “Healthnic Diet” workshops, based on the partcipatory learning method and the Digital Story Telling Method - impement a five days training event in the methodology of the new educational tool for the educational staff of the partnership, for the implementation and facilitation of the workshops -run a pilot implementation of the "Healthnic Diet" workshop, for mixed groups of immigrants/refugees and local unemployed people, in local workshops in the partnership's countries - create a toolkit with dos and don't`s based on the feedback from the pilot implementation of "Healthnic Diet" workshops -promote the "Healthnic Diet" workshop as an innovative educational tool by the dissemination of the tool-kit and the realization of multiplier events addressed to adult education facilitators. The project is built on objectives that will help vulnerable groups to - acquire basic ICT and language skills to express their educational and cultural experience -foster healthy eating habits -express creativity -gain social visibility -create bondings in a group - exchange cultural knowledge -enforce paths of integration -transfer their gained knowledge to the local community -promote active citizenship The consortium consists of 5 partners: The leader partner, Vardakeios School, works more than 10 years with vulnerable groups (immigrants and unemployed people) and works with these groups in cultural and educational activities using participatory learning methodology. Diciannove specializes in IT, will be responsible to design and manage the OER platform, and actively contribute to the creation of the digital material Danmar computers is the creator of Admin project, the platform we are going to use to help us to register and manage project`s activities and administrative and budget issues. It will be responsible for the writing of the tool kit and the evaluation of the project. The ITT Institute of Technology Trallee and its Food Studies Department specializes in the science and nutrition of food will contribute to the writing of the methodological guidebook by focusing on home economics and nutrition education aspects. Merseyside Refugee Support Network has over 15 years working and supporting refugees. Their work also helps Diaspora communities maintain their food culture and heritage. They will contribute to the writing of the methodological guidebook by focusing on social integration aspects. Approximately 50 beneficiaries from vulnerable groups (immigrants, refugees and unemployed people) will participate in the project and 15 professionals from the participant organisations will participate in the training for trainers "Healthnic" Diet workshop and facilitate later on the local "Healthnic" Diet workshops. The impact of the project will be decisive for target groups, professionals and people in local, national and international level as the new tool will promote healthy diet through an intercultural approach that will lead in social integration, cultural understanding, strengthening of the learning communities, active citizenship. The accessibility of the materials ( such as the methodological guide and the tool kit of the " Healthnic Diet" workshops) through the e-platform will help learning communities to use the new tool in the future and be benefited from its effectiveness..
Food is a great vehicle for sharing culture with people from different backgrounds. The Erasmus+ project “Healthnic: Healthy and ethnic diet for inclusion" (2017-1-EL01-KA204-036253) created the Healthnic Diet Workshops based on participatory learning methodology. The workshops enable participants such as refugees, immigrants, local people, and vulnerable target groups to acquire basic skills such as home economics, healthy eating education, food preparation methods and also language and ICT skills by creating digital stories focused on the knowledge gained. Above all the project focus on how a person can acknowledge her/his own home country food traditions and interact in a culturally inclusive environment. The partnership was composed of the project coordinator Vardakeios School (GR) and partners: Danmar Computers (PL), Diciannove Coop. (IT), Institute of Technology, Tralee (IR) and Merseyside Refugee Support Network (UK) 15 staff members from the 5 partner countries attended a 5-day Learning and Teaching Training activities seminar on Syros island and then organised local workshops, in their own countries were overall 60 participants from the above target groups attended cooking and digital storytelling sessions. All these activities were based on the Practical Guide that was created with the contribution of the staff of all organisations and includes step-by-step instructions on how to organise a learning by doing cooking, multicultural and interactive workshop. The feedback from all the workshops was gathered and became the main material for the second educational resource, the Healthnic Toolkit, which is a web-based compilation of interactive resources, do`s and don`ts and comments from the participants and facilitators. During the last months of the project all partners organised Multiplier Events to disseminate the project and the intellectual outputs on professionals that work with the above target groups. These meetings set the bases to expand the horizons of the project, to create a link between the project partners and the local, national and international stakeholders. It`s really optimistic that many organisations want to organise Healthnic workshops and are in contact with the consortium in order to advise them and to receive more feedback from the gained experience. Healthnic.eu is the e-platform that the project created in order to offer to everybody all the educational resources (translated in English, Greek, Italian and Polish) and material that was produced during the implementation of the project. There you can find: -the Practical Guide to Healthnic Workshops - available in Free Download -the Healthnic Toolkit - a free web-based interactive manual -the videos produced over the last two years in the various workshops developed in several European countries - and also all the data about all the activities carried out Cooking as a group brings us together because we are able to share our culture and heritage through food and give each other nourishment.
