Our project wants to be part of the environmental education in schools in answer to the 2020 EU priorities and aims at educating our students about energy-related problems. The focus will be on the renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomasses, hydro, geothermical that represent the major contributors to the transition to the low carbon economy in order to reduce pollution and improve energy security. Our three countries are deeply influenced by the climatic changes due to wrong habits and we are trying to react differently, giving more importance to solar and wind plants on the Balearic Islands and hydrothermical, biomasses and geothermical in Lombardy. Sweden is the avanguard Thanks to the work of cooperation and exchange of “good practices” from each country we aim at - raising awareness among the youth, their families and the public about the importance of a sustainable energy supply, - reducing environmental damages caused by using fossil fuels, and trying to positively change our behaviour on this issue. - collecting and distributing educational materials on a mindful use of renewable energies. - designing and promoting an "environmental ad campaign for social purposes" through presenting best practices not only in our areas but in other European countries. - preparing eco-sustainable touristic packages to be used in the dissemination activities. The first year of the project will be devoted to improve our students’ knowledge about climatic changes and renewable energies, they need to learn about energy-related problems and how they can change their own lifestyles to limit environmental damages caused by the daily use and abuse of energy. As the decision-makers of tomorrow we need to empower them to make the right choices using an engaging approach. The activities will aim to generate greater enthusiasm for clean energy by encouraging interaction and exchanging good practices between the three countries and getting information from others using etwinnig to get in touch with other schools and social networking to get in touch with environmental organizations. They will start from a survey on the negative effects of pollution and the climatic changes in each countries, they will study and compare legislations and fiscal incentives of the three countries and of the European Union. They will visit plants and study the potential environmental benefits of the renewable energy sources. During the second year they will have to transfer the acquired information, knowledge and good practices by creating a social awareness campaign whose aim will be to warn people against dangers caused by pollution to their health, to raise awareness about the necessity of changing our lifestyles and becoming more and more enviromentally friendly, to make the public more sensitive towards the necessity of making a smart use of renewable sources, to inform them about public, scientific projects and social activities,They will use different media from the traditional posters, leaflets, flyers, banners, onboard advertising, mobile advertising to the “new digital media and new social networks” such as the internet, facebook, Twitter, instagram, youtube, blogs, banners. Some students in each country will have the possibility to have a long term mobility in the partner country. There they will have the opportunity to study the environmental problems and the renewable sources in depth and they will collaborate with partners working on the creation the future "ad campaign", "the ecofriendly corner" and the project website. They will create some packages of sustainable ecotourism to be used in their schools and comunities. The "ad campaign" will be obviously used for the dissemination of the results of the project and it will be officially presented during the conferences in each school with Europarlamentarians as guests during which the students will present the results of their works. The youth will act as multipliers in their own communities, starting with their families and friends convincing about the absolute necessity of reducing harmful emissions, moving towards sustainable and secure energy provision and using local resources.
Context and background of the project: It began to exchange good practices related to environmental problems and climate change. It is an issue that concerns all of us but which we face in different ways in each of the participating centers (Sweden, Italy and Spain). Previously we had done projects together Italy and Spain and Sweden and Spain, but we had never worked the three centers together. Objectives: exchange of good practices, change the mentality of our students: make them aware of environmental problems and change habits of energy consumption. Number and profile of the participants: 3 centers. Atheneskolan is a school of 300 students and 30 teachers, located on the island of Gotland in Sweden. Liceo Scientifico Statale Claudio Cavalleri is a secondary school of 1500 students and 115 teachers, located in Parabiago, Italy. IES Bendinat, secondary scool of 1050 students and 106 teachers, located in Mallorca. Description of activities: Transnational meeting in Mallorca (October 2017), to present the project to the students, families and staff of the coordinating center and schedule meetings and activities. First meeting preparation with students: activities to be carried out: project logo design and video presentation of the current situation of each center regarding climate change, energy consumption and environmental problems Short-term meeting in Mallorca (January 2018). Material presentation made by each school (presentations and videos), Contest logos. Visit Albufera Natural Park. Visit Sierra de Tramontana (declared World Heritage by UNESCO), Visit to TIRME (Environmental Technology Park) and IMEDEA (Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies) and conference and demonstrations by the Ministry of Environment, Consell Insular. Survey design for the next meeting and workshop on the ecological footprint. Short-term meeting in Parabiago (April 2018). Activities dedicated to the analysis of renewable energy sources. Visit to the Biomass Plant of Tirano. Earth Day celebration with planting aromatic plants. Workshops on the environmental laws of each country, comparative. Visit Hydroelectric Power Station. Visit Thermal heating plant. Interview with the Director of Production of Renewable Energies of Italy. Conference of Mayor Tirano and Minister of the Environment. Visit the Bosco Verticale in Milan. Ecological theme photography contest Transnational meeting in Stockholm organization and preparation of the second part of the project (August 2018) Short-term meeting with students in Visby. Activities: 100 students from each center have answered a survey and presented the results, Projection of short films about the garbage produced in each center. Recycling workshops and ecofriendly on the lifestyle in Sweden, characterized by its respect for nature. (September / 2018) Transnational meeting in Parabiago. Preparation and planning of the final meeting, dissemination, sustainability and activities to be presented (December / 2018). Conference and reflection on climate change. Analysis of the project website. ARPA Visit (Regional Environmental Protection Agency) Final project meeting in Mallorca (May 2019). Presentation of the digital material created by the participating students, ECO-Packages (eco-sustainable itineraries). Public exhibition of posters produced throughout the project and presentation of the "eco-corner" of Bendinat. Plastic Museum Exhibition. Visit to Menorca, wind farm. Training and dissemination activities with press and TV assistance: Climate change conference by Mr Pablo de Jevenois (diplomat, writer and former head of the area on sustainable cities and climate change in the Mediterranean Union of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and THERE IS NO PLANET B round table with Pablo De Jevenois, Line Hadsbjerg (anthropologist and author of the film OUT OF PLASTIC), Salud Deudero (Spanish Institute of Oceanography and Professor Marine Ecology IB University and Aniol Esteban (director Marilles Foundation Marine Biologist and environmental economist ). Presentation of BOOK FOR GREEN, reservation portal associated with Booking created by 4 very active students participating in RESCUE that we presented to the international EDUCAIXA Challenge Emprende in March 2019 and was one of the awarded projects with a training trip to Silicon Valley. Result: the results of all the activities and meetings have been shared both in social networks and in the websites of the centers, the website of the project itself and were exposed in the final meeting. Impact: because of this project and for the increased concern about environmental issues many of the participants have changed some of their habits and ways and have become more ecological.
