Project summary

The COP21 guidelines, adopted in Paris in December 2015, highlighted the importance of education and awareness to understand climate change (CC) issues and inherent changing behaviour, especially among young people. This growing concern and subsequent development of educational programmes bring new needs in terms of teaching resources. Many tools already exist in the field, but their educational content mostly addresses the issue on a global scale, at the expense of a sound understanding of CC impacts in the local areas where young people live. Neither do they promoting the necessary behavioural changes at individual and community levels. Furthermore, few of these resources are tailored to the knowledge and understanding of secondary school pupils (age 11-15). Finally, most educational resources proposed by the institutions are relatively conventional and rarely interactive. The CLI.C.K FOR SCHOOLS Project (Climate Change Kit for Secondary Schools) is based on a Euro-Mediterranean Partnership of 4 countries (France, Italy, Greece, Croatia), including organisations active in the field of environmental education and secondary schools that include climate change education in their curricula. It seeks to meet these needs by proposing a set of cross-cutting educational tools for Mediterranean secondary schools that enables pupils to get to grips with climatic change effects in one of the regions that will be particularly affected in the coming years. These tools will facilitate the development and delivery of CC-related activities and projects by teachers of various disciplines and other staff involved in secondary school environmental education. These tools are based on: - a territorial approach: linking the phenomenon to its effects and mitigating measures on the ground. The project focuses on the issues of Mediterranean regions, areas especially vulnerable to CC; - promoting citizenship: the planned educational activities are geared to fostering individual and collective civic action and personal commitment; - a multidisciplinary approach: providing educational resources for use in different curricula together with cross-cutting activities involving several categories of teachers and educational staff; - an intercultural approach linked with a large overview of european situations and a cooperative feedback from european teachers The educational resources developed by Cli.c.k for Schools are: - A virtual educational resource centre on CC in the Mediterranean. Available for free online, it provides teachers and educators with a variety of media, educational tools, reference documents, offers teaching guidance in class or for extracurricular activities (e.g. environmental school teams, pupils’ personal projects using the documentation centre , etc.) and facilitates thematic or transversal projects involving pupils. - The Cli.ck for Schools app on computers and tablets completes the activities offered by the resource centre. It will offer secondary school pupils the chance to visualise and understand CC effects on their immediate environment using various geographic and thematic inputs. Both tools will be available in 5 languages (French, English, Croatian, Greek and Italian). They will be the result of a collective and participatory effort, initially undertaken by the Cli.c.k. for Schools Panel, comprising teachers from the institutions involved and experts from partner organisations, and subsequently by the Local Technical Committees organised with project partner secondary schools together with other local stakeholders who will test and supplement the Intellectual Outputs. - Two transnational training workshops will test and refine these products and will train around 50 teachers and educators in the proposed tools and approaches. - Four multiplier events will be organised to share project achievements and open the network to other experiences and new partners. Introducing new virtual teaching resources on Climate Change will provide to secondary schools in many countries with additional opportunities to teach this subject in a pragmatic and appealing way. It will help students to understand the inherent complexity of CC and their own opportunities to engage as citizens, and even as eco-citizen. The Cli.c.k for Schools Resource Centre and its contents will also be used in lifelong learning programmes for teachers and other stakeholders interested in this participatory and multidisciplinary education model.

Final report summary

The "CLI.C.K FOR SCHOOLS" ("Climate Change Kit for Secondary schools") project is based on a Euro-Mediterranean partnership from 4 countries (France, Italy, Greece, Croatia). It aims to respond to these challenges by offering an educational kit dedicated to climate change in the Euro-Mediterranean region intended for 11-15 year-olds and their teachers. The approach is multidisciplinary and multicultural, it is based on a partnership mobilizing schools (Collège Jean-Garcin, Apro-formazinone, ACEE, Puscica) and organizations specializing in environmental education (UAC, MPK, Udruga Brac, ERICA) to facilitate direct and free access to educational resources. In order to reach these objectives, the project has implemented a series of complementary actions: - Development of a diagnostic of existing educational practices and references online for students aged 11 to 15. - Capitalization of knowledge sheets to provide elements of understanding of climate change to teachers and stakeholders in colleges or educational structures. - Creation of 24 activity sheets for teachers to facilitate understanding of the challenges of climate change in the Mediterranean region - Creation of 17 project sheets for teachers and students to adapt and act on a daily basis in the living area of young people. - Development of 6 thematic educational programs (water, biodiversity, eco-mobility, energy, major natural risks, climate change) which highlight the link between knowledge, activities and projects - Creation of a digital and interactive game for young people to make them aware, to make them aware of their actions and decisions that could impact the climate and their environment. This educational kit aims: - to provide teachers with resources geared towards understanding climate phenomena and challenges in the Mediterranean region, - to encourage local engagement of students and their international openness - to provide interactive resources. The "PLUS" of CLICK FOR SCHOOLS • Educational resources that identify the effects of climate change on the students' living space • The concrete enhancement of the students' ability to act on their environment • Free educational resources based on the achievements of New Information and Communication Technologies • Highlighting the diversity of geographic contexts: coastal, urban and rural challenges characteristic of Mediterranean regions The Click for schools website which promotes and capitalizes on educational resources is available in 5 languages (Cr, Eng, Fr, Gr, It): https://www.clickforschools.eu
