Project summary

The ToB3 project fits into the European context of the training of construction actors, more specifically on the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in eco-construction. Conversely, it aims to study how the development of wood construction and the use of bio-sourced materials can accelerate the appropriation of the BIM, a collaborative process still little deployed on the ground. The partners are Spanish, Italian, Latvian and French and the various types of structures: universities, companies, local authorities and association of local authorities, training organizations.      The aim of ToB3 is to develop interprofessional exchanges between:           - BIM trainers (teachers, trainers, public and private BIM referents), by making the training platform BIM GAME a platform for exchanges (strategies and teaching methods);           - the actors involved in a sustainable construction approach, bringing innovation in the field of eco-construction,           - the territorial authorities of the partner countries (municipalities, regional structures, etc.) engaged in the energy transition and wishing to integrate the BIM approach into their specifications.      Finally, the project aims at strengthening territorial cohesion between regions of Europe through the exchange of practices and know-how. The involvement of partners from the regions of Northern and Southern Europe will help to compare the tools and methods used in different socio-economic, climatic and cultural contexts to meet the challenge of energy transition in Construction sectors and to support the growth of the BIM.      The central objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the actors to articulate the use of digital tools in their professional practices, in harmony (and not in opposition) with know-how constituting the identity of each trade, In a context of work focused on the environmental issue. A second objective emerges from this question: to give meaning to this link between the BIM process and sustainable construction.      In a period of rapidly evolving uses, regulations and markets, the construction of bio-sourced materials opens up new opportunities for innovation and the sharing of values. The target audience is extended, professionals in continuing education to students and pupils in initial training, involving schools, professional federations, local authorities ...      The transnational aspect is essential to the achievement of the objectives mentioned, in that the exchange of practices between different professional and cultural contexts fuels the dynamics of the project itself and federates the partners around a shared vision. Final report summary

The ToB3 project has 9 partners: - 4 universities: Polytechnic University of Valencia, University of Calabria, University of Liège, University of Strasbourg - a local authority: Grand Besançon Métropole - an association of local authorities: Energia Calabria - a company: the architecture agency L'atelier des Montaines - a professional federation: the companion federation of building trades - a public service carrying the project: the GIP FTLV The ToB3 project is part of the European context of training construction stakeholders, more specifically on the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in eco-construction. Initially, the eco-construction concept primarily concerned wood construction, in particular due to the presence of Latvian partners and the evolution of rules on the authorized heights (and the number of floors) of buildings integrating mostly wood. Over the course of the project (and with the entry of the partners from Liège and Strasbourg after the departure of the Latvian partners), the reflection widened to the circular economy in the building, a broader theme and of which eco-construction is a component. It paid particular attention to the challenge of developing the reuse of materials from deconstruction / renovation sites, both as a practice on the site but also as a sector to emerge in the territories. Throughout the project, ToB3 pursued the objective of showing how BIM and the circular economy reinforce each other in collaborative approaches organizing all stakeholders. The end-of-study work of Amélie Hallbach, then a Master's student at the Faculty of Architecture in Liège, is quite symbolic of what the project sought to clarify and promote. The initial objectives of ToB3 were to develop inter-professional exchanges between: - BIM trainers (teachers, trainers, public and private BIM referents), by making the BIM GAME training platform a platform for exchanges (pedagogical strategies and methods); - the actors involved in a sustainable construction approach, carriers of innovation in the field of eco-construction, - local authorities in partner countries (municipalities, regional structures, etc.) engaged in the energy transition and wishing to integrate the BIM approach into their specifications. They were achieved in particular by: - The holding of three BIM Game tests during three transnational meetings (Besançon, Valencia, Strasbourg) and with students from the universities of Calabria, Liège, Besançon, Strasbourg and Cuenca. - The organization of numerous conferences given by building professionals on renovation and construction sites during the meetings in Rende, Brussels, Liège, Strasbourg, Besançon and the EUBIM 2019 congress in Valencia. - The creation of a BIM Master at the University of Calabria. - The creation of a pilot project in the circular economy with regional influence in Besançon (renovation of university buildings). Finally, the project aimed to strengthen territorial cohesion between regions of Europe, through the exchange of practices and know-how. Thus, the involvement of partners from the regions of northern and southern Europe has made it possible to compare the tools and methods implemented in different socio-economic, climatic and cultural contexts to meet the challenge of energy transition in the construction sectors and to support the rise of BIM. The central objective of the project was to strengthen the capacity of actors to articulate the use of digital tools in their professional practices, in harmony (and not in opposition) with the know-how constituting the specific identity of each profession, in a context of work focused on the environmental issue. In a period where uses, regulations and the market are changing rapidly, the circular economy, notably based on the reuse or recycling of materials, opens up new perspectives in terms of innovation and sharing of values. The audience of the meetings organized by ToB3 was diverse: business leaders, town planners, architects, teacher-researchers, education and training professionals, students, representatives of professional federations, elected officials and technicians. of local authorities. The transnational aspect was essential to the achievement of the objectives, through the exchange of practices between different professional and cultural contexts, exchanges which were able to unite the partners around a shared vision.
