Project summary

This project, entitled "High-risk behaviour : an evil to root out", is a proposal to address the common concerns of the four partner schools (Spanish, French, Greek and Portuguese). Indeed, these schools are left facing pupils from disadvantaged socio-professional categories, with high-risk behaviour, signs of dropping out of school or who are already in a situation of dropping out of school. Our project aims at one of the strategic objectives defined at European level in the field of education : reducing the school drop-out rate to below 10%. In addition, its priorities, fighting against early school leaving and developing cross-curricular competence and basic skills, correspond to the European thematic priorities. The activities of our project will take place over a period of three years. A main theme is defined for each year. The first year is mainly devoted to high-risk behaviour caused by addictive products. The second year is devoted to school violence. The third year focuses on the risks associated with the excessive use of various screens and sleep problems. In the course of this three-year period, we will try to alternate theoretical contributions and practical experiences. Every year, an assessment will be carried out in each school to observe the evolution of the school atmosphere, the benefits resulting from the project's actions with the aim to confirm or adapt the priorities established during the writing of the project. Participants in this project will be students, teachers, parents, members of the educational community, local associations ... Among the students, we will favour those who have social and educational difficulties, those who have a high level of lack of commitment. Classroom motivation and involvement in school life will also be criteria for selecting other participants in the project. Members of the educational community who wish to train and exchange their practices to intervene in a different way with students will be the main participants of this project. Cross-border meetings and short-term learning and training activities will take place at the same time, at a rate of two per year. They will bring together partners from each country. During the cross-border meetings, the partners will take part in seminars, meet specialists ... to gain theoretical knowledge, thus improve their practices. During short-term learning and training activities, students will offer concrete actions to be carried out in their schools. Then, they will be tested by the partners in various ways during this three-year project (prevention day, prevention campaign through posters, ads ...) The implementation of these practical experiments by and for students will make them aware of the dangers and to have a more objective view of high-risk behaviour. This will also help to develop concrete and easy-to-implement tools in these schools. It is important for students to be involved in the creation of tools so that they can get to grips with them and pass them on more easily to their peers or parents. The passing of these tools onto the whole educational community as well as to local communities, will be one of the expected impacts throughout and at the end of the project. Indeed, we hope that other schools, which will not be participating in the project, can get to know and use these tools to fight against high-risk behaviour and thus reduce the drop-out rate. The publication of all our productions (posters, song, charter ...) on the blog, the Facebook page and the eTwinning space of the project will allow a wide dissemination. As a result, we hope to inform as many people as possible and raise their awareness of high-risk behaviour in order to effectively combat early dropout. The language used in the project will be French but each production will also be in the language of the country.

Final report summary

This project, entitled « High-risk behavior : an evil to root out !» is an answer for common concerns of the four partners schools (Spanish, French, Greek and Portuguese). Spain and France had already begun this thinking in a precedent Comenius project "Don't drop out of school, play your role" in which they fought against this evil. These 4 schools are confronted from disadvantaged socio-professional categories, with high-risk behavior and signs of dropping out of school. Project’s activities took place, as it was planned until march 2020 because of confinement, they are partially stopped and the last meeting, planned on May in France, was canceled. Then, it was difficult to work together in distance because everyone was waiting decisions in each country. The first year " addictive products, all concerned" was assigned to high-risk behavior due to addictive products. The second year was devoted to fight against school violence. The third year was focused on the risks associated with the excessive use of screens and sleep problems. During these three years, we alternated theoretical contributions (conferences, formations, seminars...) and practical experiences (exchanges of practices, production of teaching aids, work groups to experiment innovative pedagogy) In each meeting, pupils exchanged, thought together and suggested concrete actions that could be experimented in their school when they came back : prevention’s day, exhibitions, poster contest, sketches, games, quizzes… On the beginning and on the end of each year, surveys were suggested, in each school, to see school climate’s evolution and advantages brought by this project. With these surveys, we checked project’s aims were reached and were successful. Partners were numerous. “Agrupamento de Escolas de Nisa” tried to involve all the school. Pupils, who were mainly engaged in the project were 170, in secundary school. All the Gymno's College, 60 pupils and their teachers were involved in all project's activities. In IES Algazul, all the 670 pupils, in which there were special education needs pupils, took part in this project. SEGPA’s pupils of Collège Bellevue (130 pupils), and also 800 pupils and all the teachers of this school, pupils and teachers of primary schools (there SEGPA’s pupils talked about high-risk behavior due to addictive products), other SEGPA’s classes in Tarn. Furthermore, our project was addressed not only to pupils but also to a larger public : parents, IEN, one of SDEI, doctors, nurses of DSDEN, all the educative community’s members, local associations. They were involved with pupils in our project. We chose pupils with educational and social difficulties and pupils who dropped out of school. But we also choose pupils who were involved in school as mediator. All the educative community’s members, who wished to change their practices, took part in the project with the pupils. Pass border meetings and short-term learning and training activities took place in the same time, two every year. Each time, all partners of each country got together. Pupils became aware of high-risk behavior’s dangers thanks to experimentation and exchanges of practices. These concrete actions were successful because pupils were very involved in thinking, creation and diffusion of project’s products. All the pupils knew very well these tools and so they could suggest them for prevention’s actions to their peers. All created tools are posted on project’s blog and can be consulted by everybody. So we can say project’s aims were reached and we went further. Participants’ number increased compared with the number written (activities, mobilities) in the initial project. Many people have seen and commented our posts during the three years of the project. So we are proud because there was a big diffusion. We hope it will continue also several years afterwards.
