Project summary

The fundamental aim of the project is to improve young people's intercultural communicative competence in a complex, knowledge, skill, attitude and responsibility based manner. The pedagogic experience confirmed with a measurement gave the fundamental idea of the project, according to which the young do not know the EU in a suitable depth although they were already born in one of the European Union's member states. However, in order to let this European human, social community be able to grow for the ones living in it – particularly for the young - they must consider it to be their own and have to take an active role in the life of this union. Human relations, friendships, the knowledge of the other nations’ cultural values are all the key to becoming a European citizen. This project does intend to facilitate this process. We are planning to develop the intercultural communicative competence along with six different cultural segments: national parks, world heritage, national holidays, traditions, gastronomy, family celebrations. The thematic processing of a single cultural area is carried out by students by dint of mentor teachers and experts in between the periods of the mobility (approx. 700 students are active in the partnership momentarily), and the most active students will present the results of their research work at the project meetings in an interactive, witty, creative way. In the course of the analysing and researching work, besides the change of the students' cultural knowledge and skills, their command of the English language, their digital literacy and reading comprehension are about to improve as well. Short-range teacher mobility comes true in parallel with the project meetings, during which with the host country's co-ordination, the educators will acquire experience and knowledge with respect to training, teaching methodology, as well as they support and control the youngsters’ knowledge growth relative to cultural topics and lend a hand with the improvement and advancement of personal connections among the young. For the practical implementation of the project, seven countries (HU, PL, PT, S, NO, LT and TR) will work in partnership and it is Hungary that undertakes the coordinator role. Each country's youngsters and teachers will meet in person on the basis of a prepared schedule beforehand. At least two students and one teacher will be sent as representatives on the project meetings. The last, closing project meeting in Hungary will be held as part of Szentendre Spring Cultural Festival 2020, thus the results of the international cooperation will gain wide-ranging publicity considering that Szentendre is a tourist and cultural centre, whose visitors represent many nations. In the interest of the quality assurance of the project, the participant schools' management (headmaster, financial chief officer, project coordinator and topic leader) will attend a kick-off, interval and closing transnational project meeting in compliance with the schedule of the project. All the partners are committed to fulfil a high quality implementation of the project. The products made in the course of the realisation of the project (EU-quiz, CD/DVD knowledge materials, issues, web App Socrative formative assessments), the good practices and experiences will be shared in public, as well as their own pedagogic community will perform the practical application of all the increments of the project so as to develop their own methodological skills. The efficiency of the project will be assessed in accordance with pre-specified indicators and the long-term effects of the project on the young will also be looked into. The personality changes of the students collaborating in the project means the most important, long-term effect of the project, as a result of which they will become such citizens that will respect each other's culture, interpret the human rights well and be able to act in favour of Europe's society.
