Project summary

In “Searching for the daily bread”we gathered 4 countries being part of the Mediterranean basin : Italy ,France,Cypres and Romania that although it is situated in the east part of Europe it defends the French world speaking. They all have to manage students issued from immigration. The teachers teams of these countries all share the desire to give meanings to their teaching to better motivate students who are in search of values and identities in a world in a constant evolution and upset by the arrival of people that are looking for freedom, bread and a new homeland. The topic around which we will work is” BREAD” ,a sacred element in our civilization that has accompanied our history and our common origins, but also psychological meccanism that create fear and prejudices, how they born, how they can be destroyed. Finally we’ll try to instill into young people the concept of empathy Thus the 4 countries share a millenary cultural tradition on making bread and also share some difficult social and academic realities due to the lack of “ daily bread”and social diversity that students face. -The objectives this project aims are: innovate by new working methods using ICT and new tools for the teaching, to develop productions; -Increase the confidence through teamwork; -Expand and increase French ,English,Italian languages skills and partners’ languages; -Explain to students that English in not the only European language to communicate but we have chosen French for this project. -To promote the idea of belonging to the same country home” Europe “and thus develop a sense of European identity for the future citizens, The activities will be various : Theoretical research, expert lectures; Pratical development workshop bakers; to create a web page , a twinspace page; roles games Concrete wheat producers , mills and bakers visits. The results will have implication not only locally but also regionally because such a project will give ideas to other schools to undertake a similar path after seeing the positive results achieved to face the same problems. At international level such a work on a such important subject could improve the food lifestyle of the population because it focus on a healthy and simple product now often replaced with “ junk food” Furthermore we are recovering from a historical point of view the facts and events of migrants who have had to fight to earn a piece of bread. The works on prejudices and empathy, the ability to aggregate of workshops about food and pratical work, will give the opportunity of overcoming cultural and psychological barriers to better accept diversity All the partners would benefit: -Cultural comparison -To put in evidence of minor languages -Discovering other living models; -To face stereotypes -Foreign language progress: make effective communication is one of the main objectives by the European Council in the European Common framework of languages. But we hope that the dynamism of the project will be one of the triggering factors of academic success for all students and the integral on possibilities in the schools of the disadvantaged students.

The project "A 'la recherche du‘ pain quotidien ’à travers la Méditerranée", after the withdrawal of the Cypriot school, saw the participation of Italy, France and Romania. The team of teachers from these different countries have shared the desire to make sense of their teaching to better motivate students who are looking for values and identities in a constantly evolving world. The themes around which we worked were: 1. bread: the staple food of our Mediterranean diet but also a metaphor for life, a sacred element of our civilization, we found it in art, literature and cinema. 2. immigration: the three countries worked on their history of immigration and emigration. 3. prejudices: how they are born and how to defeat them, what it means to be a victim of prejudice, role play have been proposed 4. empathy: students were given tips to think about the concept of empathy, so role play have been proposed. The objectives have been fully achieved: the students have discovered the traditional national culture of the partner countries, shared their knowledge with other foreign students, reflected on the quality of food, increased self-confidence thanks to teamwork, they carried out tasks together with their foreign comrades, communicated in a foreign language (French, English, Italian) and improved their language skills, made use of new technological tools, had the opportunity to develop greater national and European awareness thanks to research work on the proposed themes, they have developed artistic skills, such as: traditional folk dance and music from each partner country, they have succeeded in overcoming prejudices towards others, they have understood and reflected on empathy, becoming united towards who must leave their own country and face many difficulties in the new one.
