Background The aim of our project is to develop, in our school, activities concerned basic skills and social and civic skills, in the foreign language, with cultural awareness and expression, digital competence, that are very important instruments in order to make the European citizenship, and in a Life-long learning perspective. In our Erasmus + project there are five countries: Italy (as the coordinator), Poland, Romania, Denmark and Greece. We have students that have problems with the basic skills; some of them present DSA certification, or other disabilities. All the students must consolidate and strengthen the necessary skills to have an active and responsible citizenship. School must help them, together with the parents and other people in charge. Objectives We will create activities that could improve the quality of teaching and learning. The main objective of this project is to develop teachers and school staff competences, and to find and exchange methods of teaching basic, social and civic skills, through the activities of the project. The students will use ICT and they will learn how to cope with emotional problems, like assertiveness and aggression, and they will learn how to think about, discuss, communicate and work together with other mates from different countries. All the teachers from our secondary schools will take part in our project, so all the subjects will be involved (especially Basic skills, Language, English, History and Geography, Citizenship Education). All the students will be involved too (aged 11-14). Activities In our project there are 2 planned Transnational Project Meetings, where we will discuss about the plans, drafts and final versions of the final product, as well as we will exchange experiences and ideas for the project activities. There are also 5 planned students mobilities, in which children can have experiences with the topics of the project. The partnership must constantly have a cooperative approach; students from all the schools should think as they were an only big “class”, thanks to the common activities. They will discuss about their familiar world (school, friends, family, and community). They will reflect about the most important "words" in their life, as well as their values. They will share what they like to do (hobbies, sport, music, books...) using original ideas, or ideas that come from the best practices as they appear in the Proceedings Conference about “Citizenship: a new ethic for the 21st Century -a contribution of Etwinning”. Then they can use the multilanguage site "The images of the others". They will also prepare “travel plans” in order to know the countries of the Partner schools, and they will send each other suggestions for the trips. We will organize activities concerned with the education to the active citizenship. Students will meet the Major and the local administrators, and they will know all the services that the town offers. They will meet the representatives of associations that work in the territory. Activities with the Parents Association will be organized. All the activities, results, documents will be shared with the Partner schools. In this way, students will have the possibility to improve their own basic, social, civic skills also in a “real” context, and at the same time they will communicate in English. Furthermore, they will be stimulated to know about the European Union through some material distributed by the school, and also through some didactic games such as “Europe-We” (Italy), a project promoted by the Department for European Policies, in cooperation with the European Commission. Methodology Our project's activities will contain all necessary phases: implementation, monitoring, evaluation and dissemination of the project results. We will realize joint projects, teachers and students' mobilities, CLIL, ICT-based methods, peer learning, work in national and international groups, etc. Short description of the results: the main results will be the realization of leaflets about school habits, hobbies, friends, family, community; a short book with words and expressions connected with the project’s topics, PPPs and a newspaper about the trips abroad and the meetings with the local associations and administrations. After the project, the teachers will be more competent in teaching basic skills concerned with citizenship, education field, linguistic aspects, ICT tools, intercultural and innovative methods, and they will have improved their way of thinking and writing European projects. Students will gain new competences in the areas of basic, intercultural and linguistic skills. They will become more confident and responsible for their future life. Impact Teachers and students will be more open to innovations, new changes, eager to work in international groups together with local authorities and educational government. The project activities will be continued even after the EU funds will end.
