Project summary

The aim of the project stems out from the necessity to rediscover the cultural value of ancient crafts and craftsmen’s role in culture and society as part of a common cultural heritage in different European countries and to valorize Crafts in a new perspective. Handicrafts can combine past, present and future because they represent one of the most important and permanent values which reflect the social, cultural and economic lifestyles of a community. The projects aims to raise awareness on the necessity of protecting and preserving Crafts traditional cultural heritage but at the same time to discover practically on one side how handicrafts can become a new possibility of employment, also thanks to the use of new technological tools and ICT in an innovative way, andon the other an instrument of social inclusion. Students from the four partner schools will be involved in activities aiming to : get to know different crafts realities in their territory, their history and the present situation ; create a cultural itinerary based on their research ; analyse how Crafts can become a resource for employment among young people in a contemporary context and how they can be promoted as a valid alternatives to office work in a moment of huge economic crisis; discover and understand how Crafts activities can help the environment and a sustainable development ; create a link between schools and the world of work by involving local craftsmanship associations in the project; participate to workshops in which they will create real objects , starting from an idea and following all the process of their creation; enhance an entrepreneurial mindset in students who will create a virtual entreprise through which they will advertise and sell the created objects in order to raise money for funding charity activities ; have students cooperate and work together with refugees in workshops ; use new tecnologies to project and create new objects ; discover the potentialities that ICT offer to valorize Crafts products in a digital world. The project will be carried out transnationally because we want our students to know and compare different realities in Europe, from the north to the south of the European Union. They will discover similarities and differences in the ancient crafts traditions and analyze how each school proposes innovative ways of valorizing and promoting Crafts activities , thus being involved in an "exchange of good practices" that will be mutually helpful and rewarding. In partner schools the target groups will be formed by a few classes of students (aged 12/13- 17 ) directly involved in the project activities which will promote the acquisition of skills and competences in different areas of learning , with special reference to the development of an entrepreneurial mentality among young people. We expect participants to acquire transversal skills and abilities which are not only connected with the project topics and activities but which they will be able to use in a variety of context in their future life. In the selected activities everyone will be included so as to show ability, to improve self-esteem, self-confidence and acceptance in social life. The project topics and issues will be explored in an enlarged European context , therefore working together and exchanging different points of view in a multicultural environment, participants will be able to enlarge personal, transversal and professional skills. A part of the activities will be carried out " outside" the schools , in cooperation with local organizations ( Craftsmen associations and charity organizations ) thus creating a strong connection with the real world. Some practical workshops at school will be open to local community , including refugees, so the project activities will become a means of social inclusion and confrontations with other cultures. The methodology used will be based on balancing theory, researches and learning activities with practical ones. The students will be involved directly in the planning and procedure of each activity. The project will foster a multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach, will promote a problem-based learning, will develop and reinforce students' digital, manual ,transversal and creative skills, communicative abilities in a foreign common work language and will help fighting prejudices and stereotypes towards other cultures. Participating schools will become a reference point for an enlarged community including local professional, cultural and charity /volunteering associations. The project will insert each school in a long-lasting network of cooperation and collaboration not only at at local level but in a wider European perspective. The joint dissemination of the project results, achievements and products will enlarge the European quality of the partnership. The benefits obtained during the project will be promoted on local, national, European media.
