E- (m)PACT is a 26 month- project, dealing with simulation and media in healthcare: how to do it and how to make the most of it. The main objectives of the project are: to improve the quality of education in the field of HC (healthcare) , to make HC education more accessible and attractive for the students and to foster the exchange of good practices among the partners and to combine their expertise in developing and delivering the intellectual results of the project. Though known and performant, the simulation method hasn’t been mainstreamed in healthcare education in most countries of Europe. Most of the healthcare colleges have however nursing labs, mankins and computers and other media devices, resources that would allow them to implement the simulation method. Nevertheless the simulation is regarded as the best method of facilitating the transition from the school to the labour market because it means participative learning, a learning context and not only a method, a way to learn and practice in a live reality. Building on this paradigm, the project will create the room for teachers to be trained into using the simulation method and into creating scenarios, for the students and the teachers to use media not only for debriefing in simulation but also to document their practical training and- at a macro level -will help partner schools in delivering a more attractive education. The learning outcomes will be then taken further and the experience will be used in the development of a tool designed to help colleges in implementing simulation in daily learning activities, because simulation should not be the appanage of university education but it should be the basis for learning in all healthcare colleges. And since simulation lays on theoretical but also on basic practice, expanding the learning space outside schools became a must. Our solution is to start create and test a series of tutorials to help students dive into the subjects, in their own time, providing access to traditional courses. Two goals are envisaged: to make students take responsibility for their own learning, increasing also motivation and making more efficient the time spent in classrooms. The project aims at creating a model for the efficient combining of simulation and media in the practical training of the students in healthcare education, offering in the same time guidance on how to implement it in any college, ensuring thus sustainability of results. It will also develop teachers’ pedagogical skills in creating learning contexts and pretexts- namely scenarios to be used in simulation, but also basic tutorials to accelerate the success in learning for the students. The project will also involve students as main beneficiaries of the learning process in the partner institutions but also as co developers of the project tangible results. On the long run, the project is supposed to produce the following outcomes: to enhance schools to provide more attractive education and training, to make ready to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities and to increase motivation and satisfaction in daily work. The main tangible results of the project will be: 1. A starter- package containing: a Handbook on how to implement the simulation in any HC college and a Guide on how media use can echance and document simulation 2. A collection of scenarios for basic healthcare practice and a guide on how to produce good scenarios, accompanyied by a collection of small videos illustrating the scenarios for basic healthcare practice 3. A collection of model tutorials for the theoretical and practical training of students used in the regular educational process of the partner institutions. The project will comprise joint short staff training events (3x 5 days) for training them into using simulation and media in training, for developing scenarios and for putting together the above mentioned outputs and students short term mobilities (2 x 5 days) for developing and testing scenarios. IT Responsible staff will also be a part of the project from the beginning, ensuring technical support, offering ideas and fine tunning the final versions of the outputs. The partnership is formed of 6 partners,Romania, Denmark, Portugal, Turkey, Netherlands and Spain covering different cultures, training healthcare at various levels but having expertise in both media and healthcare training. The project is expected to have a big impact at EU level, offering a model for combining simulation and media in healthcare, as well as guidance into working with both of them.
