Parenting Education and Awareness of Community to Enable Social Inclusion of Teens Exposed to the risk of becoming parents - PEACE SITE was set up at the initiative of Association for Prenatal Education in Romania, the partner country with highest rate of teens pregnancies, as leading partner. For the PEACE SITE project, a consortium of 7 partners was formed, following the invitation of Association for Prenatal Education in Romania who gathered Romtens Foundation, the University for Foreigners of Perugia Italy, and 5 associations, former partners from 3 European Grundtvig learning partnership projects, since 2006 to 2013: the Association Education Prenatale-Information EPI Belgium, Hellenic Prenatal Association, Cyprus Association for Prenatal Education KEPA and Latvian Association for Perinatal Development. The consortium aims to set up a project that should elaborate an effective communication model and information tools for supporting parents, teachers and especially adolescents at risk to become parents, based on recent findings which emphasis that a qualitative parent-child communication is associated with positive adolescent outcomes, because it can serve as a protective factor for adolescent problem behavior. The main target groups of the project consist of staff and consortium partners members, representatives of parent associations, teens, professionals from education, health and social domain. Project products will be disseminated also to NGOs and public institutions at the local, regional, national or international level. In Romania the Federation of Parents Association - School Education will be the main beneficiary of project products which will facilitate the information and skills transfer for acquiring good practice in parent-child communication for life issues such as sexual education and prenatal education. The network of parents associations from partners countries through their membership to European Parents Associations will allow a more wide European dissemination. In the same time teenagers from consortium partners countries could benefit from the e-learning platform products and mobile phone app and also the teachers, counsellors and educators from school level and other professionals such as midwives and nurses, medical doctors and stakeholders from community level. The principal activities established in the project will be: • 4 transnational meetings: in Romania (Oct.2017), Greece (May 2018), Italy (Oct. 2018) and Latvia (July 2019) with 2 participants from each partner. • 6 Intellectual Outputs: O1. By the end of the project all partners will have initiated a dialogue with local, regional and national education authorities to embrace the innovative approach of parent-child communication tool and create complementary part of the respective national curricula to raise the children and teens compliance and openness to communication, this possible action being an important support for the project's sustainability. Above all, among all project partners exists a strong will for a lasting strategic partnership, to create and establish a sustainable network nurturing bilateral and multilateral working relationships at various levels, creating more opportunities for continuing the dissemination of PEACE SITE project products.
The main objective of PEACE SITE project was to allow organizations from Romania and from the other partner’s countries to exchange ideas, practices and methods regarding the education of parents and their children, teenagers at risk to become parents, exchanging experiences and reinforcing networks. For the PEACE SITE project, a consortium of 7 partners was formed: the University for Foreigners of Perugia Italy joined Association for Prenatal Education in Romania together with Association Education Prenatale -Information EPI Belgium, Hellenic Prenatal Association, Cyprus Association for Prenatal Education KEPA and Latvian Association for Perinatal Development, former partners from 3 European learning partnership projects, since 2006 to 2013. The partners offered through the PEACE SITE project’s products and activities an effective communication model and education/information tools for supporting parents, teachers and especially adolescents at risk to become parents. The scientific researches reveal that a qualitative parent-child communication is associated with positive adolescent outcomes, serving as a protective factor for adolescent problem behavior. Teenage pregnancy in Europe affects young people’s sexual and reproductive health and their social inclusion. In EU, in 2015, 93 000 births of first children were to teenagers (4%), and 1 in 10 first children born to teenage mothers was in Romania. The project was focus on improving and extending the offer of high quality learning opportunities for parents to enhance their knowledge, skills and attitudes for a better communication with their children to support them in adopting a healthy life style, through sexual education and prenatal education. Different tools were developed within the project to facilitate parent-child communication: an interactive, user friendly, multi-lingual platform with e-learning courses (9 modules), 4 doodle animations and a mobile phone application. Although prior to the application the partners did not assess directly the training needs of parents regarding communication with children of different ages, they based the project proposal activities and intellectual outputs on reviews from scientific and specific literature. That is why the partners aimed to remedy this shortcoming through the IO1, the Comparative study, meant to investigate the educational needs concerning parent-child communication on sexual education/prenatal education issues of 6 parents / partner Finally there were interviewed 398 parents (of which 198 from Romania) - the sample in this study being one of availability. The results of the study guided the further development of content for the project products and activities. Thus, instead of 7 modules there were developed 9 modules. The 2 extra topics were: emotional development of children and the risks of digital technologies for children. The content of the IO3 training materials / IO4 the 9 e-learning modules, IO5 the 4 doodle animations and IO6 the mobile phone application sought to answer the parents' educational needs concerning their communication knowledge, attitude and skills on life subjects (as sexual education and prenatal education) in the relationship with their children, as revealed by questionnaires replies. During their 4 transnational meetings the coordinator and partners decided to improve the project outcomes and the up-graded topics where addressed during the learning –training events: C1 short-term joint staff training event and C2 blended mobility of adult learners, during dissemination events inside the project. The results where positive and were confirmed in all the meetings and events that partners had with their associate partners during the PEACE SITE project life time. Although the project language was English, due to the participants request, IO1 was also translated in Romanian and IO3, IO4 IO5 and IO6 were additionally developed in French and Romanian, while part of IO5 was subtitled in Japanese. The partners have transmitted information about the products of the project to the parents' associations and several schools (including the electronic networks to which the schools are registered and we expect this number to increase now that the schools activities are in full swing. The access to the e-learning platform remained free after project completion; through IO2 (the accreditation of the e-learning courses) the graduates (with university training) of the modules will be certified by the University of Perugia receiving 3 CFU university credits valid in the EU.
