Project summary

Context: This project is set within the framework of the objectives established by the European Comission Erasmus+ Program: international dimension, multilingualism, equity and inclusion in the field of education, as well as the priorities supporting schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) and disadvantage, social inclusion and promoting the acquisition of skills and competences. As a tool to achieve the program objectives, we propose a strategic school transnational partnership between Tibble Gymnasium in Täby (Sweden) and IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes in Lugo (Spain). Both schools are experienced in co-existence issues inside the school, but, with new technologies and social media radically changing the way we interact and behave, we need to put new strategies to work, characterized by a proactive approach involving student participation. We need to empower the students to deal with and solve their own conflicts, making them aware of the problems and risks that their attitude and behavior might entail, and providing them with the tools and guidance needed to avoid conflicts and live in harmony within the educational community and in society. Objectives: The main objectives are to investigate and identify the various ways our students interact with each other in school and outside, and address the difficulties that follow. We aim at developing guiding rules exercises to improve our students’ social skills when interacting with classmates and staff in school and online, so as to improve the school working environment. A second objective is to address the issues of gender equality and sexual harassment and educate them on these subjects to prepare them for the future. Overall we will work with the prevention of bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination. Participants: To achieve the proposed objectives, this project intends to carry out two kinds of mobilities. 1. Long-term mobility of 4 students 15-18 years old, on a reciprocal basis. It will be carried out over a period of 2 months in each school year, within a two-year project. 2. Short-term mobility of 10 students 15-18 years old, on a reciprocal basis. The exchange period will be 7 days each school year. To guarantee the success of the mobility, objective and subjective criteria will be established to select the participating students, taking into account personal profiles, academic records and family status. Activities: Long-term mobility: During the mobility, the students attend classes in the subjects that both schools consider feasible and appropriate. In accordance with and with the support of the staff in Lugo and Täby, the students study the remaining subjects using ICT as a means of communication and support. They investigate and document enquiries about co-existence in their host school. This and any complementary activities are documented and confirmed in the students' individual Learning Agreements. The mobility will be attested by a diploma and certificates will be issued for foreign language classes. These accomplishments will be included in the students' Europass Curriculum Vitae, their language passport and their Mobility Document. Short-term mobility: The objective of this action is to investigate co-existence in the schools. They receive training on related issues and do a report. They will also develop a prevention campaign and elaborate suggestions and exercises to improve co-existence within and outside school. Overall activities: 1. Make an enquiry about co-existence in the two schools. 2. Receive training on co-existence related issues. 3. Present reports on co-existence and training summaries. 4. Elaborate proposals to improve co-existence, such as problem solving strategies. 5. Design a conflict prevention campaign. 6. Disseminate the project outcome in the schools. 7. Elaborate proposals for further improvements in co-existence. Results, Impact and Long-term benefits: The envisaged result of this project is that with the activities and the campaign our students will gain a broader insight into the various aspects of co-existence, social interaction and conflict and its solution, which will help them improve their own personal relationships as well as help others, both in the school context but also in the future. It will imply a presumably significant improvement in in the bullying and abuse situations as well as a certain degree of progression in the learning process due to the cultural and linguistic context. Apart from the participating students and teachers, the impact on our educational communities will take place at all levels and will involve families, school staff, most students at the two schools, who will benefit from the results of the activities, and other people involved in the community. We aim at creating a better social working environment for our students, something which will benefit our future students.
