The project “Robotics is a game” is focused on students skills development by project teaching. It will be implemented at two schools providing education in technical fields – High Technical School, Myjava, the Slovak Republic and High Industrial, Hotel and Medical School, Uherske Hradiste, the Czech Republic. The main aim of the project is to encourage students to creative thinking in the solved tasks and to use knowledge of the large number of studied subjects to meet these chalanges. This goal is connected to another one – to motivate the teachers in the use of project teaching. Within the project, the students will be led by experts to design and construct a device that will be used as a teaching aid for technique teaching at elementary and secondary schools. In the project there will be directly involved 10 teachers of technical orientation, 4 teachers teaching languages and English, 30 students of mechatronics, mechanical engineering and computer science and 20 primary school pupils in order to verify the proposed procedures. During realizing of the project, project teaching will be implemented into the educational process. The group of students, under the guidance of mentors, will receive an assigned task – to design and construct a facility primarily serving as a teaching aid for equipment subject at primary schools. Some designed parts of the device will be produced by students at CNC machines and 3D printer. Students focused on information technology will create a website with an interactive presentation. We expect a positive change for improving the creative climate in the classroom, both the teachers and the students. The secondary effect will be better acquisition of knowledge by students because they will be directly applicable in tasks solving. Long-term benefits will be the increased interest in studying technical fields. The results of the project will be also used in the presentation of our school to pupils of primary schools.
The project "Robotics is a game" was aimed at developing students' skills by project teaching. It was realized at two schools providing education in technical fields - Secondary Technical School Myjava (Slovak Republic) and Secondary School of Industrial, Hotel and Medical Uherské Hradiště (Czech Republic). The main aim of the project was to encourage students to think creatively in solving problem tasks and to use knowledge from a large number of studied subjects to solve these tasks. Another objective was related to this - motivation of teachers to use project teaching. We are pleased to say that we have met these objectives. The project involved 10 teachers of technical subjects, 4 teachers of teaching languages and English, more than 30 students of mechatronics, engineering and informatics and 20 pupils of primary schools in verifying the proposed procedures. Within the project, under the leadership of experts, the students designed and constructed a simply replicable robotic arm with electronic motion control, which has the potential to serve as a teaching aid for teaching technology in both elementary and secondary schools. When working on the project, the researchers used modern CAD programs and worked with several 3D printers.
