Project summary

According to the objectives of ET2020 Council Decision; the rate of the pupils aged 15 who are incompetent at Math, Reading and Science, should be less than %15 till 2020. Language competence is one of the main objectives of which is stated in the strategic coherence framework on education(ET 2020). But almost all countries in ESCL, the language speaking skills and competence of the pupils are not in the expected level. On the other hand, the function and success of ICT in education receive a wide acceptance(Eurydice, 2011). The focus of today’s education policy is how the new techs function and how can it be used and improved in a best way to support education in schools. Accordance to these aims; the idea of our project is to increase the level of the success of English and Math competences of the pupils aged 15-19, integrated innovative teaching methods with ICT. Based on three needs above (Math, English, ICT), some of our short-term objectives are: *foster an academic increase by using different/innovative methods in English and Math lessons *encourage the teachers to use these methods Medium Term Objectives are: *develop new teaching tools by integrating good applications with ICT *adjust good applications to the lessons other than English and Maths, too *improve English speaking skills Long Term Objectives are: *use ICT as a tool to increase the level of success in education, so adopt ICT as an education tool for the pupils aged 15-19 *contribute to the objective stated in EU education 2020 *improving the quality and efficiency of education and training *raise the awareness of citizenship of EU Cooperative learning methods, suitable to our needs and aim, get the main role from the teachers and transfers it to the pupils. These are Peer Education, Active, Reflective Learning Strategies and these forms are the stem of our project. When we combine these methods with ICT we will be able to form platforms the pupils can keep learning beyond the school. On the other hand cooperative learning is a method that the pupils with different talents are going to gain experiences such as helping, getting help, aware of group union and while helping each other they are going to learn from each other, too. Sharing experiences and knowledge internationally is a necessity for a modern education. E+ is all about sharing and working together to achieve a common goal and find solutions internationally. Thanks to this project, we are going to find the opportunity of defining, understanding, comparing and exploring new issues. Also, while supporting the modernizations of our schools, by cooperation internationally, we are going to contribute actively to the integration process of EU. Our Project, which includes the partnership, is based on a strategic cooperation that good applications are shared such as Peer Education, Jigsaw, CLIL, LED learning (a kind of life related, Active and Reflective learning). Each school’s useful applications are going to be compiled and it is going to turn to be a new form in a digital platform as a PEARLS-web portal, designed by ICT students. The students are going to upload the videos to the portal in which they lecture Math and English lessons in their own methods. So, we will carry collaborative teaching/learning methods to the digital platform. There are lots of portals including these kinds of videos generally made up by specialists and experienced people and there are some videos that students lecture, even if they are very few numbers. However, there is no portal through which high school students are lecturing actively and preparing documents for the lessons. The portal that we aim to create will serve the pupils for this objective. For our project, we determined five responsibilities (budget, quality, dissemination, communication and ICT). We shared our duties according to our experiences. In addition, each partner will create sub-teams for these areas of responsibility in their own right and we will conduct our work according to the cycle "PLAN>CONSTRUCT>CHECK>START" Both teachers and pupils will participate in different workshops so they can experience new methodologies proposed in different schools, which are already using them. At the end of the project, learning motivation of the pupils is expected to increase. There will be changes in teaching methods of the teachers. Even if the project is over, the benefits will be sustainable. The portal will continue to be accessible on the net and different collaborative learning methods we learned from each other will continue to be used in our schools and introduced to other schools. Our project is called as PEARLS (Peer Education, Active and Reflective Learning Strategies), which gives its name to our portal too, besides being the abbreviation of learning methods, it's also a kind of symbolic description of pupils. It emphasizes that each pupil is very valuable and special just like a pearl!
