Project summary

With the aim of strongly developing Europe at School activities (intervention in schools about European civic and citizenship education, carried out by young youth workers) all across Europe, the proposal's objective are to: • exchange good practices among individuals and associations already engaged in these activities or interested in getting engaged in them • develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes of young youth workers to allow them to plan and implement quality Europe at school activities • reflect upon the existing tools and resources for Europe at school activities • initiate a synergy-building process in order to develop new projects and to foster cooperation between the participating individuals and organisations. • develop bridges and synergies between the formal education system and the non-formal and informal education environment • develop a training and educational kit and a workshop methodology usable by different educational system and individuals The proposed activities are: Series of seminars. In order to support the exchange of good practices among our members and organisations, we intend to set up a series of training seminars, each one focusing on developing their competences to address the different audiences: one dedicated to primary education needs, one to secondary education and the last one targeting the VET system. Every seminar will be an opportunity to reflect on the existing tools and methods, to provide valuable guidance for quality Europe at school interventions and to stimulate cooperation and mutual learning. Job-shadowing. Three- to four-day exchanges between participating organisations will be set up to reinforce the skills of a core team and increase the cooperation between them. Job shadowing implies that young youth workers are being hosted by their peers in another country and participate in the organisation and performing of a Europe at school intervention. The learning outcomes entail enhanced skills and expertise for youth workers and mutual learning is promoted through the establishment of strong working ties. Creation of a teaching and training kit and its accompanying workshop methodology. The project will develop a Europe at School teaching and training toolkit designed to be used both by youth workers (JEF volunteers for example) and by teachers in primary schools. This kit should will aim to be user friendly and will contain the various activities that can be organised under the Europe at School label. An accompanying methodology to train users to the toolkit will be developed so that JEF volunteers can train other youth workers and teachers to its use. The project will target first and foremost, young youth workers, interested in or already engaged in such activities. The second target group will be their organisations. Finally, school students will be impacted by the Europe at School activities organised in the framework of the project and after its lifetime. It is expected that the project will open new doors to cooperation with the formal sector in particular in offering trainings and tools to teachers directly.

Final report summary

The project “Europe at School” was implemented through a period of one and a half year with activities all around Europe aiming towards development and building the capacity of youth organisations, youth workers and educators towards a quality European civic education. The specific objectives of the project were: • exchange good practices among individuals and associations already engaged in these activities or interested in getting engaged in them • develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes of young youth workers to allow them to plan and implement quality Europe at school activities • reflect upon the existing tools and resources for Europe at school activities • initiate a synergy building process in order to develop new projects and to foster cooperation between the participating individuals and organisations. • develop bridges and synergies between the formal education system and nonformal and informal education environment • develop a training and educational kit and a workshop methodology usable by different educational system and individuals The aim and objectives were achieved through the following activities: Series of international educational activities (seminars) organised in France, Portugal and Belgium that trained more than 60 volunteers of the participating organisations and broader who developed their competences (skills, knowledge and attitudes) for implementation of quality European civic education at local/national level. Each of the seminars was specified towards the development of competences of working with diverse groups and contexts (primary school, secondary school and VET institutions). Every seminar offered space for the participants to practice their skills either through practice exercises within the group or visits to the educational institutions and practice directly with the young people The established partnership which gathered organisations with diverse experience that met 4 times during the project duration. The partners through the implementation agreed to approach Europe@School as a programme/platform and with that developed a visual identity and website they are going to continue using in the future. Creation of training kit with materials/workshops that will be available on the website with information on how to implement European civic education in diverse environments. Beside the tools that will be available online the partners developed an online library which will be available to all the volunteers of the participating organisations that will be implementing future actions. The project was a great starting point for future collaboration with different organisations and institutions on the subject of European Civic Education. The partners are ready and motivated to continue the great work.
