Project summary

Growing up in contemporary Europe implies an extensive increase in chances and a natural confrontation with challenges. The project "Forceful History and language -applying competence- based methodology” is focused on preparing pupils to become enlightened and successful European citizens. It requires in-depth knowledge about Europe - its geography, history and cultural heritage and also an ability of intelligent use of one’s personal resources (skills, attitudes, competences, knowledge), and a critical reflection of one’s values. The project is a result of the intention of all schools to improve the motivation and practical skills of their students. The teachers of Bulgarian and Hungarian schools have taken part in KA1 training together and the idea of the project is a response to their aspirations to continue and implement the new knowledge and approaches learned during these training as well as the aim to create an international network for sustainable education. The project focuses at the acquisition of four key competences-communication in foreign languages, ICT competence, critical thinking and collaborative learning. The main idea is to observe, search and analyse the shared Roman roots of our history as a fundamental base of the modern European culture by exploring the sites of the cultural heritage from the Roman Age in each country. Throughout the period of our project the students will work virtually in eTwinning and will exchange the results of their researches there. Project includes also inside school (curricula) and outside school (practicing at museums, sites, galleries)activities, workshops, short-time students exchange visits and during the multicultural activities- learning events for international teams, good practice exchange, open lessons, exhibitions, performances, development of e-magazine. The project goals can be achieved only by the complex approaches of integrated, project- based teaching and learning - through the implementation of activities related to history, geography, culture and traditions and by using innovative methods and ICT. Cultural heritage will not be just the goal itself but it will become a means to achieve the objectives of the project, facilitating learning and personal development. Participants in the project will be students from upper primary level- aged from 11 to 13, their teachers and school staff. Approximately 72 children and 24 teachers will be part of the international mobilities, but in the local project activities will be include all their classmates which means that more than 200 students will participate and benefit from the project work. However we want their school teachers, other local teachers and experts to benefit from the exchange of the best European practice. The parents and the members of the school board and society will be also involved in project activities and it will expand the horizons of the parents. The methodology in use will be CLIL, interdisciplinary and global learning, ICT approaches, flipped classroom, collaborative learning and international team work, researches, discussions, problem-solving and project-based learning, practical experience, seminars, evaluation and assessment. The long-term results and benefits for students and teachers include: -experience about the emergence and development of Roman civilization and culture, its spread along Europe and how it connects all modern European countries by their common human and social -enhance of their foreign language communicative competence and digital skillsvalues. -acquirement of better practical skills, which have not been included in the curriculum (eg .: work with historical artefacts, decision-making, critical thinking, work in international teams, creativity, use of digital technologies. The teachers will get aware in use of CLIL and other more efficient and interdisciplinary methods, ICT in their everyday teaching and educational work. They will expand their knowledge and skills in the field of dealing with intercultural teaching and learning.
