“CCTT - Career Counselling in Teachers‘ Training” is a project of local and regional authorities, mainly in cooperation with secondary schools in Hessia/Germany, Andalusia/Spain, Wielkopolska/Poland and Nouvelle-Aquitaine/France. The project aims at developing a transnational concept for vocational training which enables teachers to support students in finding the right study path or career according to their individual abilities, interests and needs. Milestones in reaching the project’s aim are first of all the provision of a collection of teaching material. This collection will, for example, include questionnaires on the students’ interests, tips on writing a CV and a letter of application. Moreover, it will provide a catalogue of ideas how to incorporate further activities in the field of career counselling in a school’s curriculum and important contacts for further information. Secondly, the project group intends to design a training day for teachers which should then be integrated into the individual region’s activities in the field. Finally, the outcome of the project is the creation of a certification process and the certificate itself. They are meant as a means to assess and attest an individual teacher’s commitment for career counselling on the level of vocational training and the implementation of career counselling at the teacher’s school. Additionally, with the help of associate partners from the economy and trade, like the chambers, the project promotes the building of a network which can help students from the partner regions to find work placements or internships outside national borders.
"CCTT- Career Counselling in Teachers' Training" took place as a project of local and regional school authorities and training centres in cooperation with mainly secondary schools in Hesse/Germany, Andalusia/Spain, Wielkopolska/Poland and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The project arose from the awareness that career orientation in schools must take place in a more diverse way and that teachers influence their students directly or indirectly in their career choices, but often have little prior knowledge and tools for shaping career orientation in the classroom. The aim of the project was to enable teachers to support their students in making a suitable decision about their career or study choice according to their individual abilities, interests and needs. Our project group consisted of 13 institutions with 27 directly involved members. Among these were teachers, employees in the education administration and trainers, all with previous experience in career orientation at schools. Based on a survey on the needs of teachers and pupils with regard to vocational orientation at their school, the project group developed a material package for immediate use in the classroom. This portfolio contains materials that are used to help 1. students sensitize to their personal visions of their future and "dreams" and to specify those to map out the future, they are aiming for. 2. develop students' personal profile by evaluating their self-perception and external perception of their person. 3. students by means of a comprehensive questionnaire to take a closer look at their prerequisites and interests with regard to a career choice and instruct them in the design of a decision-making process. 4. prepare students for the application process and job interviews in particular. The material package was successfully tested and introduced to the curriculum of the participating project schools. Teachers are supported by video tutorials and instructions in using the materials in the classroom without further extensive preparation. In order to honour the commitment of teachers to career orientation in their schools and to support profiling in the teaching profession and initiate further development of career counselling projects at schools, the project group offers an online certificate for which teachers can apply to the group.
