How European countries can deal with consumption and economy on the basis of sustainable and ecological criteria is an important question in these times. Although the European countries take care of this issue and have already established strategies on waste reduction and recycling, the production of waste highly increases. This wasting of resources requires responsible and sustainable actions of all European states. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to raise awareness to it. Especially for adolescents it is indispensable because they are Europe’s future generations. Nowadays, adolescents have to be able to reflect on scientific findings with regard to culture, environment and society. We noticed a decrease in scientific knowledge and therefore education needs to respond to the more complex digital society and educational opportunities have to be adapted and extended. Due to the digital processing of educational contents a connection to the life of the students as well as support of the digital competences can be established. All five partner schools (Germany, Finland, Romania, Spain and the Netherlands) are united in these problems with different aspects. Actually it is a European task that the schools are united in. The students make a contribution and gain digital and problem solving competences in this project. By producing their own documentary they learn about how to exploit a problem. First of all they have to recognize the problem, describe, analyse, reflect on and finally spread it. This is the structure the students work on and also the structure of the project and its activities every partner school contributes to: inWASTEgation – On site (Spain) inWASTEgation – Where do our packaging and food come from? (Netherlands) inWASTEgation – What’s inside and beyond? (Germany) inWASTEgation – Alternative consumption (Finland) inWASTEgation – A look ahead (Romania) In the course of the phases the students develop different materials that document the project: “Energiebedarfsscheibe” (an instrument presenting the energy demand), instructions for experiments, film material for the lessons and instructions for sustainable projects in the context of school. In order to create these materials the students carry out different activities: systematic observations (photo collage, diary of consumption), experiments (experiments of detections), analysis of bodies of waters, interviews with experts, statistical evaluation, recipes, short films etc. The focus lies on the reflection of scientific findings in the context of nature, environment and society. The project should serve as an idea generator for other schools, clubs and adolescents as the problem concerns everyone and everyone needs to take over responsibility. Also the partner schools want to use the project as the starting point to initiate further international and local projects. This is why all results and products will be made available in social networks (Instagram, YouTube, Twinspace, eTwinning) to provide the opportunity for further development regarding sustainability.
